St. Kanatius was once a mortal man, a humble miner who earned his sainthood through unwavering courage and sacrifice. When a cave-in trapped a dozen miners within the stone, Kanatius descended alone, carving through the mountain for three days and nights with only a pick and shovel. He reached the survivors, but perished from exhaustion moments after saving them.

He was canonized in the days that followed, as tremors across the region stilled and wildflowers bloomed above the collapsed mine. His tale spread among the common folk and deep-delving guilds, and now he is revered as the protector of miners, rescuers, and those who give their lives to save others.

St. Kanatius is portrayed as a broad-shouldered, dirt-smeared man with a heavy beard, calloused hands, and soot-streaked skin. He carries a pick and shovel crossed over his back, wears a miner’s coat lined with chain, and is often shown pressing through rubble or shielding others with his body. His expression is weary but resolute—like a man who would lift the mountain itself if needed.

Clerics of Kanatius wear garments steeped in symbolism and practicality. They are not simply robes but tools of rescue made sacred, and serve as divine spellcasting foci.

A cleric must wear or carry their holy garb to prepare or cast spells. Failure to do so risks the saint’s silence until atonement is made.

• Appearance: A steel miner’s helmet engraved with a lantern and mountain rune.

• Focus Use: Required for 2nd-level spellcasting and above.

• Optional Effect: Emits dim light when in total darkness, at DM discretion.

3. Gorget of the Deep (250 gp)

• Appearance: A heavy collar of stone and steel engraved with prayers and names of the fallen.

• Granted At: Upon attaining 3rd-level spells. Often blessed in a deep ritual below the surface.

• Focus Use: Required for 3rd-level spells and higher.

• Optional Effect: Grants +1 to saving throws vs. fear, cave-in, or entrapment (DM discretion).

⛓️ Rules for Divine Focus in Kanatian Faith

• Spellcasting Restriction: Clerics must wear or carry the proper holy garb to prepare and cast spells.

• Defilement or Loss: If the garb is destroyed or defiled, the cleric must repair or reconsecrate it before preparing new spells of that level.

• Turn Undead: If garb is missing, −2 penalty on Turn Undead rolls is applied.

Marks of Servitude

• 1st: Fingers develop calloused tips, even without labor.

• 2nd: Skin gains a warm, earthen hue.

• 3rd: Eyes sparkle like gemstones in dim light.

• 4th: A ridge of fine grit or crystal forms along the knuckles or brow.
