Steep, unclimbable walls surround the city. Though made of pure stone, the wall of Elderville is far from natural. It perfectly surrounds the Bay of Knowledge and has a magical aura surrounding it. The origins of the wall have always been a point of discussion among scholars, leading to a great number of expeditions. Elderville started as a mere research site, but has now become one of the oldest cities in known history. While there is hardly any concrete evidence, the consensus is that it was the birthplace of Pengolodh. The magical properties of the wall are similar to that of Dyr-Arthor and some speculate that the mystical region once stretched as far as the northern shore, though why that has ceased to be remains unclear.
The library of Elderville is a sight to behold, with grand halls of ceiling-reaching bookshelves all filled to the brim with ancient scrolls, tomes and forgotten knowledge. With its 92 million unique items It is said to be the grandest library of the known world, with the only one coming close being the library of Daoteng in Aesteria with a respectable 79 million. This treasury of knowledge is being guarded by House Pellefort, who also co-founded the library with other, now extinct houses. They are the sworn protectors and will do anything to safeguard its existence. The city is well-guarded, the only entrance being from the sea. The “natural” defense the wall provides has made Elderville impenetrable, making it the perfect place for scholars to study the secrets of the universe beyond the reach of politics and censorship. This has caused Elderville, and in extent House Pellefort to be apolitical and have historically refrained from pleading fealty to any lord other than themselves.
