Firehold

History

3.000 years ago, during the Unbekannt, Gaelhart Redmayne travelled all the way from Stormhold to the Nameless Wasteland to start anew. There, atop a high cliff, he built a castle that would become one of the strongest forts of Tearithia. Being on a cliff gives it the tactical advantage of high ground and combined with the harsh climate of the Wasteland, it has earned a reputation of being impenetrable. The reasons for its remote location have been taken to the grave by Gaelhart himself.

Scholars have deemed the construction of Firehold to be improbable, arguing that the general practices of that time were not advanced enough to have built something like this. It is argued that either Gaelhart lied in the accounts, trying to come across as more powerful or he used some form of magic, even though Magicea was at an all time low during this period of the Unbekannt.

Layout

Firehold stands tall at around 200 meters with its center tower and 125 meters with its 4 cornering towers. Its thick walls can withstand a barrage of fireballs and other similarly charged spells due to the unique structure of the materials; a combination of various stones, minerals and crystals, some of which are foreign to Tearithia.

A large courtyard the size of a small village leads into the main body of the castle. A large set of stairs in the entrance hall leads to the throne room, the heart of Firehold. When you walk up the stairs you are greeted by a red carpet that leads to a large throne that dominates the room. Two large phoenix wings emerge from its back and whenever the lord-liege of Firehold rests on his throne, a brazier that crowns the seat lightens and fills the room with dancing flames. An engraving before the elevated platform on which the throne stands firm shows the words of House Redmayne: Honour Burns Brightest. Whenever the throne room isn't used for official events, two throne rooms stand in length on each side of the room. "How can I ask my men to fight in my name, when I won't even share a meal with them", is what Ramhart usually says when asked about it. A set of doors behind the throne lead further into the central tower, where the sleeping quarters can be found. Atop the center tower slumbers UrraxRamhart Redmayne's trust dragon steed.

Political Value

Ever since the construction of Firehold, the entire Nameless Wasteland has been considered as part of House Redmayne's territory. Even though the Redmayne's have historically always served a king of Westfield, they have managed to retain their sovereignty of the region. As of now, Firehold and the surrounding areas are part of Unbekannt and the Redmayne's have sworn fealty to Franko Agolith. Firehold stands as one of the most important strongholds in the dominion and serves as an important cornerstone of the kingdom.
