Fanala Telaea

Hugger of Trees

Early life as a Cat:

Fanala’s life began not as a human, but as a feline, a curious orange cat roaming the streets of big cities and ancient forests. As a young kitten, she showed signs of abnormal intelligence and sensitivity to the world that was around her. She often encountered travelers that gave her compliments about her beautiful and glowing green eyes. She often got told they provided comfort to those in need, those which got harmed by the world. But then, on a day she shall never forget, she met a young boy, barely eight years old. From the moment she laid her eyes on the boy she knew that a great friendship could bloom from it. The young boy found her in a weakened state, she was shriveled up next to a tree, hiding from the pouring rain. She had an injury on her front feet, and the boy noticed this. He took her in and nurtured her back to health, and named her after an old legend of the forest, one of a lady that used to live in a mushroom acting as the protector of the forest it stood in.

Fanala spent years at the boys' side, they were inseparable. Slowly Fanala began to learn from the people she encountered, unbeknownst to the boy Fanala began to understand the words and ways of nature magic. Over time the little cat found her own connection to the spirits of the forest.

Learning the ways of the Druids:

Fanala’s transformation from a normal orange kitty cat, to an extraordinary being began when she was drawn to the forest's deeper mysteries. As she ventured beyond villages into these forests she deepend her bond with nature and all it has to bring. She was not just a curious feline creature anymore, she was the forest's quiet observer.

One day, under the light of a full moon, Fanala followed a druid she met with the boy at a random inn into the woods. Here she saw it, she witnessed him perform a druidic ritual. Fanala was so impressed she wanted to do the same, no, not the same, she wanted to do the exact opposite. She wanted to transform from a little orange kitty cat to a full blown human, this way she could finally communicate properly with the people around her, and most importantly her beloved caretaker, the boy. Fanala went to the place where the man performed the druidic ritual, and tried to recreate it. To her surprise it actually worked, she was standing there, the forest seemed to have blessed her. She had been granted the ability to switch between any type of animal, but most importantly also switch into a human.

A new life as a human Adventurer:

In her human form, Fanala had a thirst for adventure. Her feline nature persisted in the way she moved and explored the world. Seeking a purpose in her life, and just wanting companionship, she asked the boy if it was okay if she went to explore for a little while. After all, they had already been together for 6 whole years, they were practically each other's most trusted and best friends. Her caretaker said that it was okay for her to go on an adventure, but under one condition, she had to occasionally write him a letter about her whereabouts, her travels, and how she was doing/feeling. Fanala immediately started to thank the boy and agreed with the conditions made up by him.

She went to the nearest dock and ventured as north as she could, during her travels she found a pack of adventurers. A monk, a warlock and two strong, muscular paladins. Together they went on quests, and even slayed a dragon, which most definitely was not something the boy would've expected reading in a letter she sent. While this pack of rather strange adventures were traveling they also bonded, even though they all were very different from each other.

However, Fanala carried a great secret with her. Despite her having the appearance of a human, she remained bound by her feline, fragile mortality. A mysterious illness had struck her just before separating with the boy. This disease was so harmful it could not even be cured by the most powerful magic they had encountered.

The bond with her Caretaker:

Fanala’s adventures eventually brought her back ‘’home’’, to the city her caretaker was residing in at that moment. She found herself in a great battle with people her old companions introduced to her to, against a reincarnation of the black spider and one of its followers, a strange crow that had transformed into a Dryad. Fanala got gravely hurt in this high stakes battle, and her caretaker sensed that. He immediately got notice of where his dear kitty cat was, and rushed to her aid with his weird automaton. With the power of the automaton the black spider was quickly defeated and the Dryad ran back to where he came from. When her caretaker truly saw the state Fanala was in he was overcome with grief.

Knowing his dear kitty cat, that he spent almost half his life with would not live to see another day, he performed a desperate act of magic, he absorbed Fanala’s soul into his own body. But in this process a weird artificer also came near them and got absorbed in the process too. But accidents happen and Fanala was extremely happy about the sacrifice Lyon, the boy, her caretaker made for her. This way they could continue their journey together, while Lyons' body carries both of their spirits.

Legacy of the Cat:

Fanala's travels become some sort of a local legend. It turned into a story about courage, loyalty, and determination. Even though Fanala's material form was no longer there, her spirit lived on through these tales, she became a spiritual protector of the forest. But one thing unknown to most is that her spirit will continue to live within the body of her caretaker, forever bound by destiny...
