"I don't move fast. I don't need to. I was here before you arrived and I'll be here after you leave."
— Gareth Ironvein, mason
Oreads carry the blood of earth elementals or shaitan — beings of stone and mineral whose legacy manifests as dense bones, rocky complexions, and a patience that makes dwarves look impulsive. They are the planetouched who understand foundations: the weight of stone, the value of stillness, and the quiet satisfaction of a wall that will stand for centuries after the hands that built it are dust.
Physical Description
Oreads are heavy for their size — dense muscle and bone packed into a frame that looks human until you shake their hand and feel the weight of it. Skin ranges from dusky tan to stone-grey, sometimes with visible crystalline or mineral veining. Hair tends toward earth tones — brown, grey, black — and has a coarse, almost mineral texture. Their eyes are often dark and deep-set, with pupils that reflect light like polished stone.
Society
Oreads are born into human communities and spend most of their childhood being told to hurry up. They don't. They move at their own pace, think at their own pace, and build things at their own pace — which is slow, careful, and permanent. In Molthune, oreads find natural homes in the masonry guilds, the mining operations, and the military engineering corps. A wall built by an oread doesn't fall down. Neither does the oread, usually.
Relations
- Dwarves: Natural allies. They share a love of stone, a respect for craftsmanship, and a willingness to sit in silence for hours without finding it awkward.
- Humans: Find oreads reliable and slightly unnerving. There's something unsettling about a person who can stand perfectly still for twenty minutes without blinking.
- Mul (Iron-Blood): A quiet camaraderie. Oreads and mul both understand endurance. They don't talk about it — they don't need to.
- Ifrits: The classic elemental friction. Earth finds fire exhausting. Fire finds earth boring. Both are wrong and right.
Alignment and Religion
Oreads lean Lawful Neutral — structure, patience, and the understanding that some things take time. Torag, the Father of Creation (forge, protection) and Abadar, the Master of the First Vault (civilization, law) are natural fits. Some revere Irori, the Master of Masters (perfection through discipline).

Oreads adventure when the foundation they've been standing on cracks. A mason whose quarry unearthed something that shouldn't have been buried. A soldier whose stubbornness outlasted their welcome.
