When the bloody warring era in Caldar was finally over and the Unknown was formed, the elven nation of Razorleaf agreed to share power with the other nations, in an effort to distribute power equally and make each nation able to defend itself and prosper at the same rate with others. With much pain in their hearts they broke Laia's stone, a massive boulder in the elven capital imbued with properties of magic regeneration, into several parts, polished it and enchanted it to be suitable as a magic generator.
Nine power cores were made from the split of the elven artifact. Each was given to a nation of Caldar to be used for the respective nation's protection, stability and growth. The cores were taken and placed under heavy security, as they were an invaluable asset of each nation. Harnessing and extracting magic out of the cores was no simple matter. Facilities capable of doing that had to be built around the cores, and capable mages accompanied by researchers and overseers were tasked with the smooth operation and further development of the magic extraction.
Each nation decided to use the magic of the cores in ways that would enhance aspects that the nation was lacking in. Some used it to provide magical enhancement to the nation's security, making simple citizens who worked as guards, much stronger than the average person. Others funneled the magic into terraforming the land, magic barren lands more fertile, while others used it to solidify their rule over the nation, using its magic to quell riots and subdue political adversaries.
Regardless of their uses, the power cores became a beating heart for each nation, fueling the body with magic that required no rest, had no lifespan and no ambitions.
