Realm of Dreams

A living consciousness cannot exist without a body to house it, and as such must find another accommodation while its physical body lies asleep. That place is the realm of dreams.
The realm of dreams is a chaotic place that pays little regard to the laws of physics, geometry, or other laws that govern the physical world. Almost anything is possible in and around one’s dreams, and even multiple conflicting realities can exist at once.

The realm can be divided into two types of regions: within a person’s dream, and in the wilds of the realm.
Every person is the ultimate authority within their own dream, and while most passively go along with the whims of their subconscious, some people can attain lucidity and control their dreams. A lucid dreamer can alter the location depicted in the dream, the physical properties it displays, and add or remove characters portrayed in it. Additionally, a lucid dreamer can create a gateway that lets them exit their dream and wander the realm of dreams itself.

Outside of a dream, the realm itself appears differently to each person that visits it, so two dreamers standing side by side may see completely different scenes. Regardless of its appearance, a wandering dreamer may travel the realm and look into or even enter the dreams of other people. For example, a dreamer might see the realm of dreams as a vast library, each book representing a different person’s dream. By taking a book off a shelf and reading it, they can enter the dream and interact with it directly.

A dreamer outside their own dream can’t control the realm at large or the dreams of others, but they can alter their own image that they project into the realm, called their Persona. They can choose to alter their appearance and clothing or manifest objects within their hands, but they can’t alter the scene or the rules of the dreams. Finally, a dreamer that makes their way outside of their own dream can seek out gateways to other realms, most notably the Realm of Memory and the Wild Realm.

The Wild Realm

Much like humans, the souls of most animals and fey also go to the realm of dreams in their sleep, but they don’t form dreams of their own. Instead, they all go to a vast expanse called the Wild Realm. Most of the rules of physics exist here, such as gravity, though a dreamer that enters this realm can still alter their own persona as in the rest of the realm of dreams.
