(S03) Beware the Corpselight!

Session

Gauntlight Keep

Dining Room

The kobolds came together and attacked Kaynan instilling him with fear and doubt. Navlok attempted to slash away at them to no avail. Jek called out to the ghosts in Draconic, the native tongue of kobolds. They turned to face Jek and replied "Please, let us rest. " The party worked together to avoid the ghostly kobolds' attacks while unearthing their remains from beneath the rubble in the room's center. Once all the kobolds' bones were collected, they were destroyed thus ending the haunt.

The party collected themselves and pushed on deeper into the Keep.

The Great Hall

The party left the room and noticed a break in the masonry near the northeast corner of the hall. After some investigation, they found a secret door. Beyond it laid a small chamber containing the remains of what appeared to be a teleportation circle. The magic runes and metallic inlays that once secured the magic had since been stripped and removed; likely by those who have explored the keep before.

Private Office

The party enters what appears to be a dilapidated office containing ruined shelves and a desk. Navlok found some potions in the desk as well as a switch. Upon activation, the switch caused a section of an adjacent wall to go ajar revealing a descending staircase.

Prior to this discovery, it was believed the Gauntlight had no lower levels...

Private Sanctum

Adjoining the office lied a room containing collapsed furniture and tattered banners. Within the remains of an armoire, Navlock discovered a rusted key ring containing six rusty keys made of iron and two bronze keys: 1 decorated with a lighthouse and the other is decorated with a book. While Navlok studied the key ring, Kaynan located another secret door located along the room's eastern wall.

Forgotten Shrine

As the door opened, a smoldering corpse fell toward Navlok. The corpse's fingers were curled around the door as if the person spent their last breaths trying to pry it open. Kaynan searches the corpse and notes their attire as thieves' leathers. Kaynan hands Navlok an unusual rapier that was strapped on the corpse's side.

The two reunite with Jek in the Office to identify the potions and the object before exploring the Forgotten Shrine further.

Corpselight Fight

The party re-enter the Forgotten Shrine and are faced with two reanimated corpses (they are possessed by corpselights ). The party defeats one but sustains grievous injury. The fight nearly ends in a TPK before the evening sun reflects off of the stained glass and destroys the remaining corpselight.

Return to Otari

Return to Otari

After the corpselight encounter, the party leaves the Keep and head back to Otari. They spend the evening going around town to get their magical loot identified, this search leads them to Crow's Casks. Crow's Casks is a tavern owned and ran by Magiloy, a female kenku alchemist. She offers the party to test her newest brew, her take on a dwarven blonde ale. Afterwards the party drinks some more, gets alchemical items identified, and then they end the night.
