Lucien Ice was the last heir of an ancient winter druidic lineage (known as Ice) dwelling in The Vale of Everwinter. Revered as an elder of the Frostfall Circle, Lucien dedicated his life to maintaining the elemental balance of the northernmost regions of The Earth Realm and preserving the traditions of his people. Though known for his suave demeanor and the whimsical Festival of Frost which he orchestrated, he carried a lifelong hatred toward the Frost Giants of Unknown, particularly the sorcerer Harkon Chillbringer, who slaughtered his parents during a failed peace negotiation.
Lucien later aided The Sunsations during their crash landing in the Forests of Frostfall, offering shelter and assistance in restoring the Sky's Edge in return for their help in defeating Harkon during the Cold-Front Confrontation. He ultimately perished in the Battle of the Black Sun when Valekith drew the sun toward the Prime Plane, incinerating Lucien’s body in the event’s closing moments.
Origins & History
Lucien hailed from a secluded grove deep within the Vale of Everwinter, born into a rare family of Ice Genasi whose bloodline carried the breath of elemental winter. His family, known simply as Ice, served as wardens of the north and were tasked with tending to ancient pacts between his people and the spirits of winter. Lucien’s parents, revered elders of the druidic order, once sought to end the long war between the Frost Giants of Valskrag and the druidic circles of Frostfall. They traveled to the glacial fortress of Valskrag to negotiate with the herald of Borealis, the frost giant Harkon Chillbringer. They never returned.
In the years that followed, Lucien rose to leadership within the Frostfall Circle, mastering icecraft and the control of the glacial ley lines. He continued his family's legacy through the Festival of Frost—a celebration of life in a land of cold, and a defiant act of joy in the face of encroaching Everwinter. His frozen abode was adorned with ice sculptures shaped in the likenesses of his family and allies, frozen testaments to memory and loss.
Life
Lucien’s life took a dramatic turn when the Sunsations crash-landed in the Vale aboard the Sky’s Edge. Recognizing their power—and their shared opposition to Harkon—Lucien agreed to help repair the airship if they aided him in halting the coming of Everwinter. This pact proved pivotal: alongside the Sunsations, Lucien stood against Harkon Chillbringer at the Icecrag Altar during the Cold-Front Confrontation. The battle ended with Harkon’s death and the weakening of Borealis’s grip upon the Vale.
Though the threat of Everwinter was averted, Lucien knew the balance remained fragile. When Talyen called upon allies to confront Malekith, Lucien answered. He joined the Sunsations on their final voyage to The Isle of Ember and fought in the Battle of the Black Sun. There, he proved invaluable in repelling the Fallen MytharAngels and shielding the Avatars with great walls of sleet and frozen wind.
But his power could not hold back the sun itself. As Valekith dragged the eclipsed sun closer to the material world, Lucien was caught in the incinerating burst of solar energy that vaporized much of the battlefield. He fell as his body was reduced to mist and snow.
Legacy
Lucien’s death marked the end of the Ice Lineage, but his legacy endures through the druids of Frostfall who now carry his teachings. His frozen abode has been transformed into a shrine, its entrance lined with everblooming frost-flowers that never melt.
Each year, during the first snowfall, the druids of the Vale sculpt a likeness of Lucien Ice beside that of his parents. His death is not mourned in silence, but honored in festival—just as he would have wanted. In Frostfall, he is remembered not only as a war-warden, but as the last heir of winter, who laughed into the storm and gave warmth to the cold.
