Everwinter, also known as the Endless Night, is a prophesied apocalyptic event deeply tied to the lore of Borealis, the Warden of Winter. According to ancient prophecies, Everwinter would herald the eternal freezing of the world, where the relentless cold would cast every creature and landmass into a perpetual state of frost and ice, swept by fierce and unyielding blizzards. The event is said to have been foretold ever since Borealis's divine heart was frozen solid in his cataclysmic battle with Skald, the great Elementari of Ice.
In Borealis's twisted vision, Everwinter is not just an end but a rebirth—a transformation of the world into a realm where winter reigns supreme, and only the strongest or most cunning creatures could endure. Very few would survive this icy apocalypse, and those who did would have to adapt to a world where the sun never rises, and the warmth of the earth is but a distant memory.
The Wards of Winter, the devoted cultists who worship Borealis, see the coming of Everwinter as the ultimate fulfillment of their god's will. They believe that by bringing about this eternal winter, they are honoring the frozen heart of their master and securing their place in the icy paradise that Borealis has envisioned. These fanatical followers have long sought to accelerate the arrival of Everwinter, performing dark rituals and sacrifices in the coldest and most remote places of the world to empower their god and bring about the chilling prophecy.
One of the most notorious of Borealis's followers, Harkon Chillbringer, dedicated his life to ensuring the world was cast into Everwinter. Through heinous rituals, he sacrificed countless creatures of The Ice Realm, hoping to strengthen the bitter cold and hasten Borealis's icy reign. Harkon's efforts culminated in the infamous Cold-Front Confrontation, where he attempted to bring Everwinter into full effect. However, his plans were ultimately thwarted by a united force of The Sunsations and Tribe of the Wolf who fought against the encroaching cold, decapitating Harkon and scattering the Wards of Winter.
Though Harkon was defeated, the prophecy of Everwinter remains a chilling specter on the horizon. As long as Borealis’s frozen heart beats with icy malice, the threat of Everwinter lingers, waiting for the moment when the world is at its weakest to blanket all of creation in an endless night of snow and ice.
