Few vessels have carried as many heroes or weathered as many skies as the Sky’s Edge. Originally moored in the imperial ports of Nathas, the airship was won in a legendary dice game by Captain Aurelius, a former officer of the Bastilian Imperial Navy who wagered not just his coin, but his rank, name, and saber against a rival captain in one last act of defiance before deserting the empire. He won the vessel—barely—and rechristened it under the banner of no nation but his own.
Forged in Bastilian shipyards and retrofitted with a pulse rift-engine, the Sky’s Edge was a medium-class long-range airship with Bastilian bones but a rogue’s soul. For a time, Aurelius roamed the length of Osira across The Sands of Serrakhan, living from day to day with a ragged band of Unknown sailors.
But his fate changed when Headmaster Altair Emris of the Emris Adventuring Guild hired him to carry a new generation of heroes—the The Sunsations—on the Great Northern Voyage to the Earth Realm. It was on that voyage, through snow-choked blizzards and into The Vale of Everwinter, that the bond between captain and crew was forged. When cockatrices burrowed into the ship's rift engine and it crashed amidst the permafrost, it was Earth-Rifting craftsmen from Umber who eventually repaired and reforged the vessel using stone-stitched metals and geomantic bindings. The Sky’s Edge rose again, heavier and stronger than before.
From there, Aurelius carried the Sunsations over the depths of The Sea Realm, evading wayward winds and maelstroms en route to the Seagate. Eventually, on another such voyage, the ship was once more battered by an unnatural monsoon off the Y’azi Peninsula, and once more repaired—this time by the master riggers of the Imperial Y'azi Guntai in Dragons Roost, who refitted it with jade-laced wood and silken sails that shimmered in the morning sun.
Years passed. Friends were lost. Worlds were reshaped. And the Sky’s Edge, bearing its ever-growing scars and charms, returned at last to the Sands of Serrakhan, alighting once more above Shariz. Though it could never again be called pristine, its patchwork hull and mismatched sails told the tale of a thousand storms and a thousand triumphs.
Today, the Sky’s Edge serves the Sunsations Adventuring Guild, though Aurelius flies not for coin—but for camaraderie, freedom, and the love of the sky. He is a trusted friend to Talyen and the remaining Sunsations, and is often seen laughing on the guild’s high terraces with his crewmates, chalice in hand, boots kicked upon the table.
