Rakshasas are a race of malevolent beings primarily associated with the Material Plane. Originating from the Outer Planes (and Plane of Khaos), these entities are notorious for their manipulative and malefic traits. They are considered outsiders, occupying a space in between the traditional definitions of the monstrous and the divine.
Physically, Rakshasas are anthropomorphic creatures, often appearing as humanoids with distinctive tiger-like heads and sharp, deadly claws. However, one should not be deceived by their appearance as Rakshasas are natural shape-shifters. They possess the innate ability to alter their forms to resemble any humanoid creature, an ability they frequently utilize to infiltrate societies or deceive their targets.
Rakshasas are recognized for their potent magical abilities, with a particular emphasis on illusion and enchantment spells. They are highly intelligent, often using their magic to manipulate, deceive, and control others. Their magical prowess extends to a degree of invulnerability as well, being immune to spells of lower levels and possessing a natural resistance to physical damage from non-magical weapons.
Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of Rakshasas is their penchant for deceit and manipulation. They are often depicted as puppet masters, operating from the shadows to control and influence societies. They revel in political power and social control, frequently placing themselves in positions of authority in the societies they infiltrate. Their goals are typically self-serving, and they think nothing of using others as pawns in their elaborate games.
Despite their power and intelligence, Rakshasas are fundamentally embodiments of malevolence and evil. They lack empathy or compassion, seeing other beings as mere tools to be used for their own gain. They are often associated with concepts of treachery, deception, and power, serving as a warning about the dangers of unchecked ambition and deceit.
