The Aboleth, a parasitic hive mind of unimaginable power, originated from a rift to a distant dimension of madness. This eldritch entity entered the known universe when it plummeted through the sky as a comet, crashing into the seas of the prime plane. Born from a realm of chaos and insanity, the Aboleth’s sole purpose was to spread its madness and corruption across the world.
Upon entering The Sea Realm, the Aboleth found a new host in the form of the World Eater Serpent, a god-like creature turned decaying corpse after a titanic battle with Avatar Vapora, the second Avatar of the Sea, and Paramount Thoryn, the Storm Giant King. In its weakened state, the serpent became the perfect vessel for the parasitic Aboleth, which immediately began infecting the serpent's body and mind, merging with its divine power and turning the serpent into an abomination far worse than it had been in life.
Corruption of the Sea Realm
With the World Eater Serpent as its new host, the Aboleth’s influence spread rapidly, threatening the entire Sea Realm. Its first victims were the Sahuagin, also known as the Sea Devils. The Aboleth enslaved their minds, turning them into fanatical servants who carried out its dark will. Through the Sahuagin, the Aboleth extended its influence across the ocean’s depths, plunging the sea trenches into chaos.
The parasitic hive mind grew in power as it expanded its reach, infecting not only sea creatures but even the most powerful beings within the realm. Among its most notable victims was Avatar Typhon, the third Avatar of the Sea. The Aboleth manipulated Typhon's thoughts and emotions, twisting his will to serve its own sinister ends.
Influence Over Paramount Thoryn
Even the mighty Paramount Thoryn, King of the Storm Giants, was not immune to the Aboleth’s corruption. Using its mental hypnosis, the Aboleth planted seeds of doubt and confusion in Thoryn’s mind, pushing him toward a state of apathy that would further weaken the resistance of the Storm Giants.
The Aboleth’s ability to manipulate the thoughts of powerful figures allowed it to work from the shadows, using its victims as tools to further its own plans. With each new mind it corrupted, the Aboleth came closer to achieving its ultimate goal of dominating the Sea Realm and spreading its madness beyond the seas.
Banishment of the World Eater Serpent
The Aboleth’s reign of terror came to a climactic end when Septimus Lucien, a member of The Sunsations, banished the decaying body of the World Eater Serpent to the Plane of Oblivion, removing the serpent's physical form from the material world. With the vessel for the Aboleth's influence destroyed, all that remained of the Aboleth was its parasitic hive mind, now a disembodied force of corruption seeking a new host (see: Wrath of the World Eater).
Disintegration by Avatar Typhon
Seizing this moment of weakness, Avatar Typhon—now free from the Aboleth's mental influence—used his mastery of Water-Rifting to strike a devastating blow. Channeling the power of the ocean itself, Typhon unleashed a cataclysmic torrent of water, disintegrating the Aboleth’s parasitic hive mind and wiping out its presence in the Sea Realm. The Aboleth, once a cosmic terror, was reduced to nothingness, leaving behind no trace of its influence.
The End of a Cosmic Horror
With the Aboleth destroyed, the Sea Realm was freed from its insidious grasp, and its influence over Typhon, the Sea Devils, and Paramount Thoryn was severed. However, the memory of the Aboleth’s parasitic nature and the devastation it caused lingers in the minds of those who witnessed its rise and fall. Though the Aboleth was eradicated, the threat of such cosmic horrors from distant dimensions remains a constant reminder of the fragility of the planes and the horrors that lie beyond the known cosmos.
