Aelbert Fockezoon

Spice Merchant
Aelbert Fockezoon is a man who wears his stress like a second skin. His balding head and pudgy frame are marks of a life spent in comfort, but recent events have frayed him at the edges. He’s dressed in fine clothes, though they haven’t been changed in days, now rumpled and stained, clinging to him as if they, too, are weighed down by his worry. The scent of sweat mixes with the lingering aroma of nutmeg and cloves, giving him the unsettling air of a holiday treat left out too long. His eyes dart nervously, and his hands are in constant motion, wringing together or gripping whatever is nearby, betraying his agitation.

Aelbert’s manner is a mix of desperation and determination. He’s offering an immense reward—his daughter’s weight in silver coins—to anyone who can bring her back safely. His voice carries the weight of a man who feels both guilty and helpless, blaming himself for not moving his family out of the Old Knot District, despite knowing it’s not safe. Yet, his roots run deep there; he grew up in the district and knows almost everyone. This familiarity now feels like a curse as he faces the horrifying possibility that his daughter may be trapped in the one place no one dares to venture: the Tower of Black Flame. His desperation has driven him to the point where he’ll trust anyone who might help, but his voice and demeanor reveal a man teetering on the edge of hopelessness.

Her name is Naraye Fockezoon.
