The Dwarven Hero of Chan-Kaanul

Commander Walraven was a dwarven war hero, renowned for leading the combined forces of dwarves and elves in the final battle to defeat Unknown and dismantle the Olmoy Empire in the ancient city of Chan-Kaanul. A stern, tactical leader with a deep sense of honor, Walraven commanded a contingent of dwarves from the surrounding mountains. His strategic mind and unyielding courage helped secure victory alongside the elves of Al-Strahal, driving back Yaxun’s dark forces and breaking the power of the Olmoy.

After the battle, Walraven led the effort to dismantle the remnants of the Olmoy empire. Though Yaxun B’alam held out in Kaanul’s Snare, Walraven and his forces occupied the city, removing the mechanisms of Olmoy rule while leaving significant cultural and religious structures, such as the Hall of Records and the three ziggurats, intact. Walraven was deeply respected by both the dwarves and elves, and his leadership during the occupation cemented his place in the history of Seregon.

The Return of the Walraven Line – Three Generations Later

Though most of the dwarves returned to their mountain strongholds after the victory, the Walraven line never forgot its connection to Chan-Kaanul. For three generations, the descendants of Commander Walraven maintained a distant relationship with their elven allies and kept the stories of the battle alive in their family’s lore.

Three generations later, the descendants of Commander Walraven were urged by their elven counterparts—who had settled in the region surrounding what was now called Seregon—to return. The elves had fallen in love with the land, and the growing city offered opportunities for trade, exploration, and economic expansion. Drawn by this call, the Walraven dwarves came back to Seregon, not as soldiers, but as settlers and entrepreneurs.

The Formation of the The Walraven Consortium

Once they arrived in Seregon, the Walraven family quickly recognized the opportunities for wealth and influence in the thriving city. Building on their ancestral reputation and leveraging their ties to the elves, the Walraven Consortium was formed—a powerful dwarven mercantile guild focused on trade, finance, and rare goods. The Consortium quickly became one of the most influential trade groups in Seregon, establishing strong connections in the Upper District, particularly through the Walraven Counting House, which they founded as a center for their financial operations.

The Walraven Consortium became known for trading in rare and valuable goods, including ancient artifacts from the Olmoy ruins, high-quality dwarven steel, and magical items. They also took a particular interest in the mysterious knowledge and documents stored in the Hall of Records, with the Consortium often sponsoring expeditions into Kaanul’s Snare to recover lost treasures.

While they held onto their family’s military legacy, the Walraven dwarves focused on creating a new kind of empire—one built on commerce and influence. Their wealth and status grew rapidly, and they became major players in the city’s politics and economy, known for their shrewd business acumen and deep respect for tradition.
