Seregon

The city of Seregon is a bustling metropolis where ancient traditions and modern vibrancy coexist harmoniously. Nestled between lush forests and the tranquil Lula River, Seregon is renowned for its diverse districts, each offering unique cultural, political, and social experiences.

The city was originally founded by the Olmoy wizard Yaxun B’alam, and was called Chan-Kaanul, "Home of the Snared Dragon". This is in reference to the Kaanul’s Snare and the Hall of Records.

Geography

The city is divided by the Lula River, with the majority of activity happening on the eastern side. The west side of the river contains the Old Knot District, which is a lower income area, as well as expansion of the Kerkhof Ferry District, known for artists and craftspeople.

Starfire Hill District is the hill district of the wealthy, over looking the rest of the city. The Upper District is slightly lower, with The Citadel towering over even Starfire Hill. The other districts slowly descend down to the level of the river.

The outer walls surrounding the city are painted in murals of city life from Kerkhof Ferry District artists. They are well maintained on guarded on the west side, but less so on the east side. Some residents of Old Knot District are known for smuggling, including having entrances through this outer wall. Others will argue they just aren't given the funds to keep the wall in good repair.

There are various canals running through the city, unfortunately not shown on the map.

Key Districts

  1. Westerpark District: Known for its affluent residents, elegant mansions, and the scenic Lula River, Westerpark is a hub of cultural sophistication and natural beauty. It is home to the Sacred Grove, where The Telum druids perform their rites.

  2. Starfire Hill District: The cultural heart of Seregon, Starfire Hill boasts the prestigious Seregon Philharmonic led by Maestro Willem van der Velde. The district is dotted with theaters, art museums, and charming canals, making it a haven for artists and intellectuals.

  3. Upper District: The political and military core of the city, the Upper District houses medieval government offices, a grand castle for the military, and consulates for ten mythical fantasy countries. A large central park provides a green retreat amidst the stone structures.

Government and Society

Although ultimately ruled by King Wolfswinkel when it comes to international relations, Seregon is governed by a council of elected officials who oversee various aspects of the city's administration. The city’s governance is characterized by a balance of power between the business community, civic leaders, military commanders, and influential artists.

Economy and Trade

The city thrives on a robust economy supported by trade of Seregon Serum and clockwork craftsmanship.. Markets buzz with activity, offering everything from exotic spices and textiles to magical artifacts and finely crafted goods. The Lula River plays a crucial role in local trade, facilitating the transport of goods and people. International trade is facilitated by airships.

Cultural Life

Seregon is a city of festivals, art, and music. Regular events in the Starfire Hill District and other parts of the city celebrate Seregon’s rich cultural heritage. The presence of multiple consulates adds an international flavor, enriching the city's cultural tapestry.

Natural Harmony

Despite its urban sprawl, Seregon maintains a deep connection to nature. Sacred Grove, the grand parks, and the proximity to lush forests provide residents and visitors with ample opportunities to connect with the natural world.

Safety and Protection

The city is well-protected by The Telum druids, who safeguard against external threats and the insidious spread of Amber Fever as well as Straphangers who patrol the outer wall. The Iron Guard, stationed in the grand castle of the Upper District, ensures the city's defense and maintains order. The Ithosian Talons mercenary company strike deep into the jungle, ensuring Seregon is always on the offensive.

Overall Atmosphere

Seregon is a city of contrasts and harmony, where ancient traditions meet contemporary innovation. Its picturesque landscapes, vibrant cultural scene, and strong sense of community make it a captivating and dynamic place to live and visit.

The Feel

The Feel

Seregon is sophisticated. The citizens ride their bicycles to their jobs, attend the symphony on occasion, drink coffee at street side cafes, watch parades for festivals nearly every night of the year, and cheer for their champion in petty political squabbles. The worse things get, the more outrageous the politics, in a surreal cycle of fear.
Seregonians are interested in the latest fashions invented in the city, the newest The Walraven Consortium baubles, and the news from afar. They whisper because about the news becauase it's usually bad (and often wrong). There is constant fear of invasion from afar, fueled by the government. For the government, fear is always present, and must be managed, cultivated, and directed appropriately to solvable problems of little consequence.

The poor suffer greatly, fall into servitude, and work tirelessly to avoid becoming victims to Amber Fever. It's only by not being poor that their future is ensured, and even then, the streets are unsafe. The deadly Festival of Canals, which often takes their lives, is always months away, anxiously counted down. To most Seregonians this is an acceptable element of life. Don't be poor.

Adventurers, wizards, druids, and the like are gauche. They are a reminder the world is devolving. They are only appreciated when properly attired, soft spoken, and entertaining. A young, attractive sorcerer will be invited to all the parties, while a studious mage is an unwelcome reminder.
Adventurers are often directed outside the city to explore, bolster defenses, build new outposts, and fight monsters. They are well paid and appreciated, provided they don't make a scene. Adventurers are easy scapegoats for anything that can't be easily explained.

Seregon is under siege. Zombies attack in unpredictable waves, sometimes decimating outposts or small villages nearby. Straphangers, dinosaur mounted militia, clean up the mess and defend the frontier. They are named after the many bags and pouches on their mounts. The people are blissfully ignorant of their situation.
The Nosgar Tribe Tribe outside of Seregon acts as an early warning system. They dodge zombie incursions, avoid waking monstrosities, and forbid their people from meddling with ruins and the affairs of Seregon. Their are mostly nomadic, migrating to various fortified camps throughout the jungle. Some camps are hidden in the trees, underground, or on cliffsides farther inland.

Winding Down. There is a feeling Moog (your island) is getting worse. Fewer people in the outside world can afford The Drug, resulting in less revenue and fewer distractions. There is no sense that "something must be done," as that energy was exhausted generations ago. Not everyone feels that way, and that's where you come in.
