Emerald Cradle Mine

Emerald Cradle Mine Overview

Location:
Nestled deep in the mountains, 80 miles from Seregon, Emerald Cradle Mine is a vital outpost controlled by The Walraven Consortium and guarded by the Immortals of Karsis, a renowned Dragonborn mercenary force. The mine is also accessible via ship, when it's safe to do so, with a 20 mile trek into the mountains on a much more treacherous path. The mine is also known for its deposits of copper, which are essential for minting the local "ravens"—the copper currency of the region. However, the mine's operations are constantly threatened by a vicious group of Crimson Slavers, keeping the settlement on high alert.

Captain Zarnak "Diamondscale" Voss

  • Race: Dragonborn (Silver)
  • Title: Captain of the Immortals of Karsis
  • Nickname: "Diamondscale"

Physical Appearance:
Captain Zarnak "Diamondscale" Voss is a commanding figure, his gleaming silver scales catching the light like polished armor. Standing over six and a half feet tall, Zarnak is a picture of discipline and strength, his powerful frame a testament to decades of battle-hardened service. His nickname, Diamondscale, stems from the way his silver scales shimmer in even the dimmest light, reflecting his unbreakable will and rigid leadership style.

His piercing blue eyes scan his surroundings with an intensity that keeps his troops on edge, knowing that nothing escapes his notice. Despite his grizzled, war-worn visage, his movements are fluid and precise, the mark of a seasoned warrior who has seen countless battles. Zarnak commands with authority and expects absolute loyalty and discipline from his soldiers.

Personality:
Zarnak is known for his unwavering discipline and rigid sense of duty. A veteran of many campaigns, he brings a cold, calculating approach to command, ensuring that his troops are always prepared for the dangers they face. Though respected by his soldiers, he’s not particularly warm or personable—Zarnak believes that respect is earned through deeds, not words, and expects nothing less than perfection from the Immortals of Karsis. He carries the weight of responsibility heavily, knowing that every life lost to the slavers is a personal failure.

Problem: Crimson Slavers

The Crimson Slavers are a ruthless, highly organized band of slavers who have begun targeting the Emerald Cradle Mine. Operating from a secret anchorage somewhere on the Island of Moog, these slavers raid settlements along the jungle coast, capturing miners, workers, and even guards to sell in Marg, on Elephant Island. Their attacks are swift, violent, and calculated, leaving devastation in their wake.

  • Tactics and Attacks:
The slavers strike under cover of darkness, seeming to know exactly where to attack. Though the Immortals of Karsis have successfully repelled several attacks, the Crimson Slavers are relentless, and a number of miners and workers have been abducted despite the mine’s heavy fortifications.

It’s believed the slavers have informants within the local area, as they seem to target the mine at its most vulnerable points. The slavers are also heavily armed, and their numbers are greater than initially thought, with raiding parties that move in and out of the jungle quickly, leaving little trace.

Mine Operations & Fortifications:

The Emerald Cradle Mine is a heavily fortified settlement, with wooden palisades, watchtowers, and patrols of Dragonborn mercenaries constantly on alert. Inside the walls, workers continue to mine copper, which is then used to mint the local copper coins, known as "ravens." These coins are crucial for trade and commerce in the region, making the mine a valuable asset for the Walraven Consortium.

  • Copper for Ravens:
The copper veins discovered within the mine are of high quality and have become a significant source of wealth for the Consortium. The mine's minting operations produce the region's copper currency, and the local economy relies on the mine’s output. The mine’s guards, however, find it difficult to focus solely on protection as they are constantly drawn into defending the mine’s operations from the Crimson Slavers.
