Valusia Keep and the Seven Towers of Sorcery
The Valusia Keep is an imposing, ancient stronghold, now in ruin after the Storming of Valusia Keep. it lies in shadow, situated deep in the Valley of Valusia on the northwest coast of the Island of Moog. Built long ago by unknown hands, it has since fallen to decay and corruption, serving as a battleground for dark rituals, particularly under the sway of Wrath-Amon, the lizardfolk warlock determined to summon the Great Old One Bokrug.
The Ruined Keep
The keep itself is a crumbling fortress of black stone, perched atop a rugged hill. Its walls, once unassailable, are cracked and overgrown with creeping vines and moss. Despite its ruinous state, a dark energy seems to linger within, a sense of malevolence that clings to the air. Echoes of past battles seem to resonate from the stones, and a strange mist often hangs around the keep, especially at dusk, shrouding it in an eerie glow.
Entering the main gate, one finds the Courtyard of Shadows, littered with remnants of past skirmishes, broken weapons, and forgotten bones. Statues of long-forgotten warriors, worn and eroded, line the courtyard, each figure cloaked in the same vine-laden decay as the fortress itself. These statues seem to watch all who enter, adding to the unsettling atmosphere of the keep.
A grand stone staircase leads to the central keep, where Wrath-Amon and his lizardfolk sorcerers gathered for their rituals. Though much of the interior is lost to time, flickering remnants of Wrath-Amon’s wards and sigils still stain the walls, smoldering faintly with arcane energy. These sigils once barred entry to those not sworn to Bokrug but were torn down by the Sentinels of Seregon during their infiltration. The great hall within the keep, dim and desolate, once served as Wrath-Amon’s throne room and ritual chamber, where he would stand, cloaked in shadows, commanding his followers to prepare for Bokrug’s arrival.
The Seven Towers of Sorcery
The keep is surrounded by seven tall towers, each connected by long, crumbling battlements that snake around the fortress like an ancient serpent’s spine. These Seven Towers of Sorcery were once the strongholds of powerful mages who are rumored to have built Valusia Keep. When Wrath-Amon took control, he repurposed each tower as a focal point for his dark rites, using their ancient magic to channel power toward his summoning of Bokrug. Each tower has a distinct aura, shaped by the magical forces once contained within:
The Tower of Fangs – A spire where twisted, serpentine statues coil around the base. The tower’s magic calls forth poisons and pestilence, something Wrath-Amon used to infuse his loyal sorcerers with venomous power. The air around this tower smells faintly of rot and venomous fumes.
The Tower of Echoes – Known for its eerie acoustics, this tower magnifies voices and sounds into haunting reverberations. It was here that Wrath-Amon would chant incantations to communicate with Bokrug across planes. A dark presence lingers within, and some say the voices of past sacrifices can still be heard within its walls.
The Tower of Ash – This tower appears almost charred, as if it has been through countless fires. Wrath-Amon used it to unleash waves of consuming flame, often wielding this power to inspire fear in his followers. Here, the air is thick with soot, and flakes of ash fall like snow.
The Tower of Eyes – Statues of monstrous, many-eyed creatures line the walls of this tower, which was used as an observation post by Wrath-Amon’s sorcerers. From here, he could scry upon enemies or anyone he deemed a threat. The tower’s interior is filled with old divination mirrors and broken crystal orbs, still faintly glowing with residual magic.
The Tower of Foul Waters – The flooded tower is part of the swamp itself. Wrath-Amon drew upon the swamp, allowing him to summon storms and monsters from the lake. Even in ruin, the water bubbles and moves, making it difficult to discern what is real.
The Tower of Shadows – The walls of this tower seem to absorb all light, making it unnaturally dark even at noon. The sorcerers used it to commune with shadowy spirits and summon creatures from the depths of darkness. It was in this tower that Wrath-Amon’s hold over his followers was strongest, binding them through fear and arcane dread.
The Tower of Waters – The stones of this tower glisten as if damp, and the floor is carved with spiraling channels that would once fill with water. Wrath-Amon conducted ritual purifications here to cleanse those “worthy” of serving Bokrug. A faint smell of brine and decay lingers, the last vestige of the Old One’s sea-bound influence.
