On Your Return
Scene Setting: Sentinel Island
The Sentinels of Seregon approach Sentinel Island aboard Crom's Riddle. The air is heavy with sea mist, and the rhythmic crash of waves against the rocky shores fills their ears. But as they draw nearer, their breath catches in their throats. Looming above them are the majestic mountain busts, each carving a remarkable likeness of their own faces.
The features are unmistakable, larger-than-life renditions of their individual traits:
The hooded utkacha, their concealed visage a mark of mystery and shadow.
Balik Walraven, standing tall with eyes imbued with divine purpose and a resolute expression of faith.
Jorin Longbow, keen-eyed and poised, every muscle in his face conveying alertness and vigilance.
Mariska Vandeleur, soulful yet enigmatic— hinting at her layered depths and captivating presence.
Tailyn Blithe, depicted mid-cast, his commanding hands etched into the stone as if summoning the very elements.
Ubel Ironclaw, carved with her battle-hardened intensity, her fierce demeanor a clear warning to those who might threaten Seregon.
Local sailors and returning travelers cheer at the sight of the monumental carvings, declaring the heroes "true protectors of the realm." It is clear that Seregon, once skeptical of the Sentinels, now holds them in the highest esteem.
A Changed Seregon
The bustling streets of Seregon are alive with the hum of admiration and newfound respect. The skepticism that once clung to the heroes like shadows has melted away. Strangers bow or tip their hats in reverence, and children wave toy swords, pretending to be Ubel or Jorin.
Balik Walraven is summoned to the Church of Asura for a sacred ceremony. High Priest Little Flower, in flowing silver robes, places his hand upon his shoulder and announces the Boon of Asura will be bestowed upon him (allowing a free casting of Daylight once per day, to chase away shadows and darkness).
The spear of Asura, a legendary weapon of divine power, is spoken of in hushed tones. Could Balik be its destined bearer? Even whispers from the distant Walraven empire suggest a renewed interest in this long-forgotten relative, with emissaries sending inquiries about his deeds.
Tailyn Blithe finds himself courted by the Lykeion Academy’s greatest minds. They marvel at his intellect and determination, and he is invited into the highest echelons of research and scholarship. While juggling his role in the Aberrant Accord project and his own pursuits, over ten weeks he sharpens his magical expertise and learns a new wizard proficiency—an unexpected boon from his growing renown.
Jorin Longbow and Ubel Ironclaw receive an invitation from the prestigious Roelof's School of Longsword Fighting. The school’s headmaster, Roelof Tenstride, offers them a unique opportunity: a week of teaching their techniques in exchange for a 10-week intensive training program. Should they accept, each hero can master a combat feat of their choice, further solidifying their place as legends.
utkacha and Mariska Vandeleur find a mysterious missive slipped into their quarters. It bears the oval symbol of the Seven Sins thieves guild, inviting them to a six-week training program with the promise of enhancing or gaining a rogue skill. This shadowy group sees the potential in utkacha’s cunning and Mariska’s complexity, eager to mold them further into paragons of subtlety and skill.
A Meeting of Allies
The Sentinels of Seregon are soon summoned to a private audience with General Willem van Rijnders, the seasoned commander of Seregon's defense forces, and Captain Marieke de Vries, known for her strategic mind and unwavering loyalty. The meeting takes place in a grand chamber adorned with maps, tactical diagrams, and the banners of Seregon.
Captain de Vries steps forward first, her posture firm but her tone sincere. She offers an apology for any misunderstandings concerning the heroes' claim to Kerkhof Station, acknowledging the necessity of their presence and actions there. "The situation required decisiveness," she says, "and we recognize now that your intentions were in the best interest of Seregon."
General van Rijnders follows with a nod of approval. "Captain de Vries is at your disposal as a direct liaison to me. Should you require resources, strategy, or coordination, she will ensure it is managed efficiently." His expression hardens with resolve as he adds, "Furthermore, I am authorizing a unit of Straphanger scouts to assist you. These swift and stealthy operatives are trained to secure and hold positions under any conditions—provided they can reach the location. Use them wisely to fortify any ground you take on Sentinel Island."
The offer signifies a deepening trust between the Sentinels and Seregon’s military leadership, further solidifying their role as the city’s protectors and agents of change.
