Grew up in a supportive, upper middle class family. Raised with liberal values, he took part in the civil rights movement participating at many protests and even got into fights due to it. With a boots on the ground type attitude, he always spoke loudly about his beliefs and about wanting to help others.
After college, he took up service in a church in Manhattan.
