A blackened region near the northwestern edge of the Sea of Trees, the Howling Hollowland was a place where mournful spirits congregated. Spectral flames licked the earth as ghostly spirits of fire screamed across its borders, contained by the Jawstone Divide and Emberpeak Mountains. Even those who braved the Sea, such as the Astralwood Enclave, did not go near the Hollowland.
It was rumored that the Howling Hollowland was created by magical accident, as part of some unholy druidic experiment centuries ago; others theorized that fires from the Emberpeaks lead to the scorched condition of the hollow, which was then overtaken by ghostly spirits.
Few parties survived the Howling Hollowland's horrors long enough to uncover its secrets or history, though it was speculated that it was an area of tremendous danger. When thousands of undead soldiers attempted to enter the Hollowland to circumvent the fort in the Unholy Siege Of Fort Verdane, none came out on the other side.
