All games running Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition are played with changes to the ruleset, both to better balance combat and make the game feel more like a realistic fantasy setting. Character options taken from the "core" books of the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything are allowed; for anything outside these books, consult your DM.

Please remember the homebrew changes below, and consult the posts under this entry for minutiae.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1) All creatures have a "Wounding Threshold", calculated as half their hit point maximum. If a creature suffers damage in a single attack greater than its Wounding Threshold, or when it drops to 0 hit points but isn't killed outright, it must roll a d20. On a natural 1, it rolls on the Lingering Wounds table (consult the associated post below).

2) When a creature is below its Wounding Threshold, it suffers a -2 penalty to ability checks and attack rolls.

3) Games are played using the Gritty Realism variant of 5e (DMG pg. 267). This variant uses a short rest of 8 hours and a long rest of 7 days. As a partial balance for spellcasters, places that restore magic and Potions of Spellcraft are more prevalent for adventurers to encounter.

4) Alternate rules apply to resurrections and curse removals (consult the associated posts below).

5) The Healing Word spell fails if cast on an unconscious creature; Silvery Barbs, Fabricate, and Wish are banned.
