Griffon

Griffons were intelligent beasts with the body of a Lion and the wings, forelegs, and head of an Eagle. They were known to be somewhat intelligent creatures, though had a penchant for aggression. Young griffons, called fledglings, were generally not as combative as adults but could still be dangerous. They typically made their nests in homes in high rocky places like cliffs or open caverns, building their nests from sticks, leaves, and the bones of their prey.

Griffons were proficient and swift flyers, with the swiftness of eagles and the ferocity of lions. They were carnivorous creatures, and typically preyed upon wild or domesticated Horses. They would often attack their prey when within sight or smelling distance, and had extremely keen eyesight.

When tamed and raised at a young age, they could become very loyal and fierce mounts, though this training was known to be arduous and time-consuming. Once trained, they would bond with their rider and protect them to the death. These qualities made griffon eggs highly sought after, particularly in the stronghold of Skypeak, where battalions of griffon-riders were trained.
