Vallaki Town Square

Off the major thoroughfare of the Old Svalich Road through Vallaki was the most notable landmark in the town, a large square. In the centre of this gathering place was an imposing wooden platform raised ten feet from the ground, where a trio of nooses hung attached gallows. The Burgomaster Vargas Vallakovich forced "enemies of Vallaki" to be imprisoned in the stocks surrounding the edges of the platform, wearing plaster donkey heads as punishment.

Near the gallows, a crumbling stone fountain provided water for the peasantry. The fountain was built around the statue of an imposing man facing west; this figure was of Vyacheslav Vallakovich, who built the square as well as the Vallaki Burgomaster's Mansion, but most residents had long forgotten their town's history.

During the Riots Of The Blazing Sun, the Town Square was the epicenter of violence and revolution. Random burnings and looting occurred around it, resulting in much of the buildings around the square being destroyed and its fountain becoming tainted with ash. The statue of Vyacheslav Vallakovich was brought down by order of Fiona Wachter, and replaced with a stone sculpture of Strahd von Zarovich.
