Languages

Languages were systems of spoken, written, or signed communication shared by a people, each with its own vocabulary, grammar, and manner of expression. Most arose and changed gradually over generations, splitting into dialects as communities drifted apart and borrowing from their neighbors. Many people spoke more than one, and certain languages came to be favored for particular purposes such as worship or commerce between distant lands.
