Polymorph was a Spell that allowed a subject creature assumed a new physical form while retaining its essential identity and abilities. Magic could cause creatures to change their shapes and the bodies of other creatures. Polymorphed creatures retained their own minds but had new physical forms, typically for a limited period of time. However, powerful versions of Polymorph could permanently transform a creature.

The caster chose the new shape, which could be an object, a Beast, or even another Mortalkind. The target retained its personality but gained the physical abilities of its new form. If the creature's new body was weaker than its original, it struggled to adapt. The transformation lasted until the effect ended or the target lost all of its new form’s health, at which point it returned to normal.

Polymorphing had many uses in battle and exploration. Casters used it to make allies fearsome, turn enemies into harmless creatures, or to disguise themselves for infiltration. If a caster lacked caution, an enemy could resist the change and remain unaffected; similarly, some creatures had natural resistance to magic and broke free from the transformation early.
