Armed with new information, the party told Urwin Martikov of how they planned to turn Vallaki into a mercantile democracy. The spymaster liked the idea, as his raven network had been curtailed by Wachter rule, and they left to find other community leaders who Izek and Ghalwin trusted. Father Lucian at Saint Andral's Church was stress-stricken with a mind addled by fear, but agreed to their cause after Ajuni revealed that they had recovered the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind. They then silenced the shit-slinging monkey Piccolo and intimidated Gadof Blinsky into conversion at his shop, which proved to be easy as the toymaker had made no money under Fiona's rule. At the Arasek stockyard, Gunther and Yelena were both on board to take a role of increased responsibility and power as Ghalwin purchased manacles from them. The party ultimately declined to sell Zandros' horses Peanut Butter and Jay to the stockyard, as they planned to breed them at Argynvosthol, then returned to the Inn.
Just before midnight, they divided into teams and infiltrated the Wachterhaus, establishing Ez's wagon as a nearby rendezvous point. Izek identified one of the houses' guards as a footman he had previously tortured, Udo Lukovich, and timed the patrol to enter the side door without his notice. Tobias, Izek, and Ezmerelda invisibly broke into the cellar, but as they crossed it, skeletons clawed up from the dirt around them and started a ruckus! Meanwhile, Ajuni and Ghalwin teleported to the second floor, finding themselves in a library filled with felines. Ghalwin noticed a key around one's collar and occupied the cats while Ajuni went full rogue-mode, finding a hidden door that contained a backroom and a leaden-locked chest. Using the cat's key and a long stick, she avoided the chest's needle trap to find money, two sets of charred human bones, and land deeds to the Wachter family penned by Strahd himself.
The downstairs team began dispatching their skeletal foes, but Tobias remained on the lookout for Majesto, having used Ajuni's spell scroll to see through his invisibility. Sure enough, the unsuspecting fiend slipped through a hidden door, and Tobias absolutely brained the invisible imp with a branding smite. Upstairs, Ajuni and Ghalwin were themselves invisible, and hid from a housemaid who had heard combat below. To prevent her from alerting her mistress, Ghalwin magically charmed the maid to flee, but her heavy footsteps woke up Fiona anyway. He ambushed and manacled the baroness when she opened her door, and she smote him back with a pen knife, but Ajuni successfully intimidated Fiona to submit under threat of her family's death.
The downstairs team finished off the skeletons as Tobias investigated Fiona's cult room, but the gnome found little before Ezmerelda heard the maid alerting the upstairs guards. Izek grabbed Majesto's limp body and they snuck back to the wagon, while the upstairs team learned that Fiona had kept her husband Nikolai's s body in a gentle repose, still sleeping with him years after his death. Repulsed, Ajuni continued to skulk, and found a hidden key in the hearth that unlocked a strongbox containing books from Strahd, the Grimoire of the Four Quarters and the Devil You Know.
Hearing the alerted guards, Ghalwin shoved Nikolai's body into the Bag of Holding, then played his Pipes of Haunting to scare them back outside. Ajuni opened a dimension door to take Fiona to Ezmerelda's wagon while the paladin used his powers of animal persuasion to convince Stella to escape with him. Though eager to leave her locked room, the mad Wachter maiden began feuding with the other cats in the library. The noises prompted the four guards to overcome their fear, and Izek watched as they re-entered to investigate. Still invisible, he ran with Tobias to ambush them in the stairwell, and the gnome nearly burned Udo's arm off by superheating his shield. Izek proclaimed that Wachter rule over Vallaki had ended, and Tobias stoked pandemonium with an illusion of Majesto flying around behind him.
Panicking that the house was under assault by ghosts and devils, the guards ran to the library, but its doorway was blocked with a heavy bookshelf. Ghalwin had moved the shelf and escaped with Stella through the window, magically enlarging the vines alongside the Wachterhaus into a natural cushion. A butt-naked Karl woke up in the bedlam, and Izek intimidated all of them into Nikolai II's room. Tobias locked them inside, then melted the doorknob, and Izek proclaimed that he would kill them all if they did not wait twenty-four hours before leaving.
As Ezmerelda watched Fiona in her flowery nightgown, Ajuni noticed a woman running away. The half-elf once again threatened her into silence and kidnapped her as everyone else made their way back to the rendezvous point. They had locked Karl, Nikolai II, and the guards inside the house, and now held a baroness, an heiress, and a housemaid in the wagon. Their assault on the Wachterhaus had been a complete and chaotic success.
