Inner Energy was a spiritual power used by certain creatures to perform special techniques beyond normal physical ability. Many cultures had their own interpretations of this "ki", known as "qi" to speakers of Scycaen speakers or "ma'ko" to Lizardfolk. Typically employed by Martial Artists, the energy was inherently magical, but differed from traditional Spellcraft. It was attained and channeled through focus, discipline, and control over the body and mind. Such combatants could manipulate their inner energy to move faster, strike with greater precision, or defend themselves against harm.
In practice, inner energy allowed martial artists to act with speed, power, or calm in situations where others might fail, and had a unique but mysterious connection to the Astral Border. This energy was limited in amount, but could be naturally restored to the body through rest, and better-trained martial artists had stronger access to it.
