However, the history of the company was an unknown to all but a few. It was borne from the name Fayan, a name which itself rose from the ashes of the Sunreaver. When the great pirate Dharus Sunreaver was dragged into a Lower Realms Plane and his family’s pirate empire fractured, the survivors faced ruin. To escape the disgrace tied to Dharus and his failed bargain, a branch of the family assumed the maiden name of a matriarch, Fayan, and quietly abandoned the Sunreaver legacy. They turned their surviving ships and smuggling routes toward legitimate trade, disguising illicit connections beneath a veneer of respectability.
This pivot came before Common Unification, a time when kingdoms hungered for reliable overseas commerce, and the Fayan name swiftly grew into one of trust, efficiency, and reach. From these foundations, the company scaled at a startling pace. What had once been little more than a coastal fencing operation grew into a sprawling trading empire, handling goods from distant continents and rare resources few others could secure. Their rise was fueled by an unmatched combination of ruthlessness and pragmatism. Rivals were absorbed or destroyed, local rulers courted or coerced, and markets bent to their influence.
Every child of the dynasty was Devilborn, bearing the Infernal marks of Dharus’ Curse, though few outside the family knew the truth of their bloodline. The Fayan dynasty carefully buried their origins, ensuring that even many within their own ranks never knew the disgraced Sunreaver name.
