Apparatus of Kwalish

The Apparatus of Kwalish was a legendary vehicle created by the eccentric inventor Kwalish for the exploration of the deep oceans. In its dormant state, the machine resembled a large iron barrel, heavy and unremarkable aside from a concealed hatch that granted access to its cramped interior. Once activated, the apparatus unfolded into the shape of a giant mechanical lobster, complete with articulated legs, heavy claws, and glowing eye-like lanterns. Though cumbersome in appearance, it was engineered to be as light as possible, allowing it to travel across land, over water, and beneath the waves with equal reliability.

The interior of the apparatus could accommodate two occupants and contained a dense array of mechanical controls. Ten separate levers governed its various systems, each responsible for movement, navigation, lighting, or manipulation of the claws. The machine’s airtight hull allowed it to descend to immense depths, surviving pressures that would crush ordinary vessels. Its internal air supply could sustain a single occupant for up to ten hours before needing to resurface.

The Apparatus' clawed appendages served both practical and defensive purposes. Operators could extend or retract the claws independently, using them to seize objects, clear obstacles, or strike hostile creatures. Small shuttered windows along the sides of the hull allowed limited visibility while protecting the occupants from the surrounding depths. The forward lamps illuminated murky waters and cavern passages, making the apparatus particularly valuable for underwater expeditions into the Deepways, flooded ruins, or submerged arcane sites.
