Kyrdunnoth "Kyr" Kathos

Kyr is a chemist apothecary in the Knowledge Track, majoring in Potion-Making. He doesn't have any plans after graduation, but most people expect him to apply to the same guilds as his twin brother, Tyranny Jr. Kathos. Most people at F.L.A.M.E. Academy know Kyr as a menace to society, but a fun one to have around. He’s always down for a party, and he lives between between varying shades of drunk, high, and hungover. He’s very friendly, loves to make jokes and pull pranks, and will flirt with just about anybody. However, he also has a reputation for a short temper and a long memory. Rile him up, and you might find yourself with a black eye. Unfortunately for him, it’s not hard to be bigger and stronger than Kyr, so he usually also walks away with a black eye (unless Tyr is around to step in). Don't think a fist fight will be the end of it, though. Enemies of Kyr learn the hard way that revenge is a dish best served cold.

He is a troublemaker in class, when he bothers to show up (Kyr is a big believer in doing exactly enough to coast; work smarter, not harder). You can usually find him in The Forest behind The Greenhouse with the other burnouts, or in the Laboratories where he works as a Specimen Preparer. When the Varsity Mage Tower Team has games, you can find Kyr under the bleachers at F.L.A.M.E. Stadium, definitely not causing trouble for the visiting team.

Hey, Brother

15f43709-fbd7-4b83-b720-96a52a072bd3.pngIf you met Kyrdunnoth and Tyranny Jr. Kathos separately, you'd never guess they were twins. Tyr is a varsity star with a bright future, involved in several extracurriculars, and everyone's best friend. Kyr is a class-skipping, drug-dealing, shit-disturber. They have almost nothing in common (except their dashing good looks, of course ;)). And yet, wherever there is one, the other is never far behind. Kyr is like Tyr's scrawny shadow, always a half-step behind him, pockets full of clinking glass, flashing a suggestive smile.

The Kathos brothers often spend their free time together and are fixtures of the campus night-life. The boys are notorious Wizzard Gizzard champions and spend their weekends defending their title at The Tooth and Talon Tavern or at one of Lail Ravenwood's legendary house parties. They're pretty fun to be around, and people's respect for Tyr usually means Kyr can get away with whatever shenanigans he wants (everyone knows that if you start a fight with Kyr, Tyr won't hesitate to finish it).

Potion Pusher

In some circles, Kyr is known as F.L.A.M.E. Academy's best supplier of party potions-- uppers, downers, psychedelics, you name it and Kyr can make it. These illicit elixirs are sure to give you a good time, but more than one customer has learned the hard way that experimental chemistry can be... unpredictable. If someone shows up to class completely blue or two feet shorter than normal, you can guess what they were up to that weekend. Luckily, the effects are never permanent, and the price is right enough to warrant a little risk. Would-be patrons that are too intimidated to talk to Kyr directly know to seek out Leroy Gam at The Biblioplex for the hook-up.

Kyr has his own makeshift lab in his dorm (made of stolen equipment, of course) but there are some compounds that need to be synthesized or extracted in a more... fireproof setting. His job as a Specimen Preparer is the perfect excuse to be at the Laboratories after hours, where he can make his own recipes and steal ingredients.

It's Just a Prank, Bro

As a self-identified menace to society, Kyr loves to cause what he would call 'harmless trouble'. He especially loves to cause trouble for people who deserve it. Freshmen and seniors alike whisper stories of the many pranks and tricks Kyr has pulled over the years (and the ones he didn't do, but took credit for). He leans into the reputation, which serves as a warning to anyone who might want to mess with him or his brother; he may not beat you in a fight, but he can find a way to ruin your day when you least expect it.

One of his most legendary accomplishments happened near the end of last year. Everyone knows Professor Vernon Rachard is a total tightass, and he gave Kyr detentions nearly every week during the fall semester in Paramagical Skills. Sure, the absences were fair game, but he once tried to give Kyr detention for refusing to sit up straight! So, he devised a plan and waited until the next semester to strike. During the last week of classes, Kyr broke into the classroom where he knew Rachard would be teaching Arcane Symbols 101 first thing the next morning (notably, not a class Kyr was taking at the time) and left him a little present. When Rachard picked up his chalk to demonstrate a sigil for the class, it crumbled against the chalkboard, creating a puff of dust that flew into Rachard's face. After the ensuing coughing fit, he opened his eyes to find his students bathed in strobing colored lights, their expressions a mix of delight and disbelief. When he opened his mouth to speak, he found his voice had been replaced by the newest pop hit from Shredded Lettuce! The chalk had been laced with a powdered form of Kyr's latest concoction, 'Dancing Lights' to great effect.

With the students in an uproar and his voice inaccessible (not to mention the distracting light show pulsing from his skin), Vernon's class ended very early and his next lecture of the day was cancelled. Some versions of the story claim he was stuck in the infirmary all day trying to get the spell reversed. Vernon had his suspicions about the culprit, but with none of the students in Arcane Symbols 101 having any knowledge of the incident and no visible damage to the classroom locks (thank you, Mending!), no one was ever officially charged with the offense. At the end-of-semester parties the following weekend, sales of dancing lights were through the roof.

Moon Song

One of the worst-kept secrets among the seniors at F.L.A.M.E. Academy is the weird love triangle between Kyr, Beth Vandrin, and Dresden Weathervane. Beth and Dresden have been off and on since they were teenagers, and it seems like every time they're on the outs Beth starts spending time with the stoners in The Forest behind The Greenhouse. Whenever Kyr and Dresden are at the same party at The Tooth and Talon Tavern, the tension can be cut with a knife. Everyone knows something is going on there, despite Beth's best efforts to pretend otherwise.

Horny and Sad!

Test Subject

When you make illegal, experimental, and potentially dangerous narcotic potions, it can be hard to find volunteers to test new concoctions. Fortunately, Kyr has his very own test subject in fellow stoner, Kaida Greystone. Kaida's laidback attitude and terrible attendance record make her a perfect candidate to try out new recipes that might knock her on her her ass for a day or two. Kyr will sell her his latest experiments at a hefty discount, with the promise of an honest review and an extra promise not to kick his ass if the side effects include making her 2 inches tall or turning her hair green.

Kyr and Kaida spend a decent amount of time together, wasting afternoons in a haze behind The Greenhouse or at The Lake. Kyr often rambles at Kaida about whatever mess he's gotten himself into that day, and weirdly appreciates it when she tells him how full of shit he is. But they're not friends. Just business associates. A mad scientist and his lab rat, that's all.
