It is well known that Professor River Woods has always been a bit of an astronomy buff. When taking the job at F.L.A.M.E., he chose to move into the room in The Observatory rather than living off campus like most of the staff. His research is focused around the connection between the stars and the planes--although no connection has been proven, he'll talk to anyone who will listen about his hypotheses on the relativity of space with the planar orbits.
