Goliath

Goliath

Towering over most folk, goliaths are distant descendants of giants. Each goliath bears the favors of the first giants - favors that manifest in various supernatural boons, including the ability to quickly grow and temporarily approach the height of goliaths’ gigantic kin.

Goliaths have physical characteristics that are reminiscent of the giants in their family lines. For example, some goliaths look like stone giants, while others resemble fire giants. Whatever giants they count as kin, goliaths have forged their own path in the multiverse - unencumbered by the internecine conflicts that have ravaged giantkind for ages - and seek heights above those reached by their ancestors.

The Garuk Clans

(Hill Giant Kin)

Scattered throughout the fertile valleys and rolling hills of Edge Basin west of Ein-Gedd, these clans lives in simple, earth-berm dwellings. Their skin is normally a rough, earthy brown. These Goliaths are known for their strength, resilience, and brutal life style.

Their culture is centered around hunting and husbandry, and they possess a deep understanding of the plants and animals of the region. Their clan structure is guided by strength, and they are very protective of their lands. They are known to be very strong, and even though they are not the brightest, they are very cunning when it comes to hunting and defending their home.

They are a simple people who value community, tradition, and the bounty of the land. Their society is organized around family-based clans.

The Xylar Kindred

(Stone Giant Kin)

Within the labyrinthine canyons and rocky plateaus not far from Blind Man's Pass, the Xylar Clans carved their homes into the living rock.

Their gray pale skin blends seamlessly with the stone around them.

Like most Goliath, they are known for an aggressive and competitive nature. These clans are also renowned for their artistic skill and deep connection to the earth. Their settlements are adorned with intricate carvings depicting scenes of nature, dreams, and the history of their clans. They sustain their settlements through hunting and sophisticated agriculture.

Some believe that the earth holds the memories of the past, and they seek to understand these memories through their art. They are known for their profound dreamers. They can have prophetic dreams, and their shamans use those dreams to guide the clan.

Their combat style tends to be deliberate and forceful.

The Jaggernoth Vanguard

(Frost Giant Kin)

High in the ice-clad peaks of the northern Jagged Reaches of Edge Basin, these frost peaks clans dwell in cavernous ice-forts. Their skin, a pale blue, shimmers with a faint, frost-like sheen.

These Goliaths, descended from frost giant kin, are obsessed with the preservation of ancient traditions and the mastery of cold. They are stoic, deliberate, and possess an almost ritualistic approach to every task. Their culture revolves around the 'Eternal Hearth,' a bonfire that has theoretically burned for ages though it has been unlit for as long as they can remember. Though recently, it began to burn anew.

They are warriors, hunters, rangers, and survivalists of the frozen cold wilds. They value endurance and the mastery of the elements. Their society is highly structured, with elders holding immense authority, and they have a strong oral tradition, passing down stories of their ancestors' battles against the harsh environment and rival tribes.

The Desolate Kin

(Fire Giant Kin)

In the far reaches of The Khuree Desert, the Desolate Kin toil for their survival in the harsh, scorching land. They live in settlements in dry canyons and are known for crafting weapons and armor. Their skin is a dark, ruddy red or yellow.

These Goliaths are masters of weapon smithing and warfare. Their culture is centered around their craft and, similarly to the Hadeeb surrounding them, on violent raids against neighboring settlements.

They are known for their disciplined warriors, who are very focused on honor in battle and the quality of their craft. They have a very strict hierarchy, with the most skilled smiths and warriors holding the highest positions. They often have ritualistic scarring that shows a warrior's skill in combat or a smith's skill in his craft.

They are a militaristic and industrious people, valuing strength, skill, and craftsmanship. They have a strong sense of honor and a deep respect for the power of desert, heat, and fire.

The Aetherion Reach

(Cloud Giant Kin)

Perched on the precarious cliffs at the edge of the world above the Fall into the endless sky, by the most north-western edges of the Gnarled Woods, the Aetherion Reach people are pale, almost ethereal blue skinned Golaith.

These Goliaths, are known for their love of freedom and their mastery of aerial combat, as a few of the clans have mastered the husbandry of flying mounts. Their culture is centered around the pursuit of adventure and the exploration of the skies, at time taking off from the Edge of the world and flaying above the endless expanses.

They are skilled weather readers, and they use their knowledge to navigate the turbulent air currents of the region. They adorn themselves with feathers and light, flowing fabrics. They are known for their light hearted and often jovial nature, but are very dangerous in battle.

They are partially nomadic, moving with the seasons between various homestads. They value freedom, adventure, and the pursuit of knowledge. Their society is organized loosely and chaotically while still prevailing with the competitive and aggressive nature that most Goliath kin possess.

The Thalassai Covens

(Storm Giant Kin)

Along the tempestuous coastlines and within the hidden, deep-sea grottoes of the Sunset Coast, the Thalassai maintain a mysterious and mostly isolated existence. Their skin tends to be deep blue-green.

These Goliaths are deeply attuned to the rhythms of the natural sea and storms and have many a druid and shamans among them. Not many know of them, but they are rumoured to possess an almost mystical connection to the ocean.

Their culture is steeped in ancient sea lore, and they are fishermen, underwater divers, and hunters. Not much else is known about these reclusive and enigmatic clans.
