The Obsidian Fleet

The Obsidian Fleet is a formidable consortium of fishing boats and merchant ships that have united under a banner of defiance against the Barons of Rivermond. Formed as a direct response to the oppression and heavy taxation imposed by the Silver Dominion, the Fleet has grown into a self-righteous maritime force, championing freedom on the high seas. The Fleet operates with a strict hierarchy, a clear set of beliefs, and a distinct way of life that sets them apart from traditional seafaring groups.

Faction Hierarchy

  • Grand Commodore: The supreme leader and commander of the entire Fleet. The Grand Commodore has ultimate authority over all Fleet operations and the strategic deployment of ships.

  • Fleet Masters: Experienced and trusted leaders who oversee ten Captains each. They are responsible for the coordination and management of their assigned ships within the Fleet.

  • Free Captains: Independent leaders of their own vessels who have chosen to reject the Dominion’s taxes and restrictions. They seek fortune and freedom on the high seas, operating within the Fleet’s framework but with considerable autonomy.

Leaders & Legends

  • Grand Commodore Agor Galore: Agor Galore, a male sea elf, was once the port master of Rivermond. His disillusionment with the treatment of commoners led him to rebel against his rulers. After feigning loyalty to the Barons by promising to build a military fleet, Agor constructed the “Wavebreaker Fortress,” a massive warship designed as a floating fortress. He then led his people away from the port, leaving behind his former life and embracing a new path for the Fleet.

  • Fleet Master Henry Seamond: Henry Seamond is a seasoned fisher from Shoremond whose life took a tragic turn with the loss of his wife to a Dominus Chain. Initially seeking death at sea, Henry’s encounter with Agor Galore gave him renewed purpose. Now a respected Fleet Master, he commands ten ships and is dedicated to resisting the Dominion's influence.

  • Fleet Master Castien Horizon: A female half-orc with a complex past, Castien was originally sent by the Dominus Chain to assassinate Agor Galore as penance for her past heretical actions. Upon reaching the Fleet, Agor persuaded her to abandon her mission, and she became one of his most loyal Fleet Masters. Her loyalty and combat prowess have made her a key figure in the Fleet.

Notable Members

  • Free Captain Warren Lockword: A halfling male who transitioned from a merchant to a smuggler with a mission to aid those in need. His small, nimble ship and expert crew specialize in covert operations, allowing them to infiltrate ports and rough coasts with ease. Warren’s skills are invaluable for the Fleet’s operations and clandestine missions.

Beliefs & Goals

  • Core Belief: "The Commodore is master of the fleets, but the Captain is master of his ship."
This reflects the dual hierarchy where the Grand Commodore oversees the entire fleet, while individual Captains maintain authority over their ships.
  • Guiding Principle: "We abide by the rules of the Sea. She rules us all."
The fleet operates under a code of maritime ethics, emphasizing respect for the ocean and the avoidance of unnecessary conflict with land-based powers.

Fleet Rules:

  • "The Sea shows no mercy, better not try your luck."
This reflects the Fleet’s pragmatic and often harsh approach to maritime life.
  • "We take no land, we siege no ports, we are seaborn."
The Fleet avoids land-based conflicts and focuses solely on maritime operations, primarily targeting shipments from the Barons rather than attacking common sailors or coastal settlements.

Home at Sea

When the Obsidian Fleet assembles, it functions as a floating city, with each ship serving a distinct purpose. Merchant vessels become bustling marketplaces where crews can trade goods, while fishing boats provide abundant feasts for Fleet members. The collective sight of the Fleet at sea is both awe-inspiring and intimidating, drawing in curious sailors and occasionally new recruits. While the Fleet’s operations involve seizing shipments from the Barons, they maintain a strict policy of non-interference with common sailors, emphasizing their role as defenders of freedom rather than marauders.

The Obsidian Fleet remains a symbol of resistance and autonomy, a testament to the power of unity among those who seek to escape the Dominion’s grasp and forge their own destiny upon the waves.
