Fredric Horizon

Son of Oliver Rocks
NPC, Noble

Fredric Horizon, the son of the Barony of Redmond in Rivermond, stands at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, burdened with a legacy he is not entirely keen to embrace. As the only son of Oliver Rocks, the current Baron of Redmond, Fredric is expected to follow in his father's footsteps. However, his path is complicated by his lineage: his mother, a woman from a powerful and influential family, convinced Oliver to allow Fredric to carry her family name, Horizon.

Fredric is a calm and introspective young man, often found in the quiet corners of the library or enjoying the company of friends at the local tavern. His scholarly pursuits and social inclinations reflect his desire to find solace away from the weighty responsibilities of his future role. Despite his calm demeanor, Fredric's reluctance to confront difficult choices often leaves those around him dissatisfied, seeing him as indecisive and passive.

The relationship with his step-sister, Tina Rocks, adds another layer of complexity to Fredric's life. Tina, as rebellious as Fredric but far closer to their father, harbors resentment toward the idea that Fredric will inherit the barony under a different family name. While Tina does not hold Fredric personally responsible for this situation, she directs her frustration toward their father, Oliver. The siblings' relationship remains strained, a reflection of the broader tensions within their family.

Fredric's attempts to be kind and accommodating to everyone often backfire, leaving him caught in the middle of conflicting interests and expectations. He struggles to balance his desire to please others with the realities of leadership, and this hesitation casts doubt on his suitability as the future Baron. Nonetheless, Fredric's inherent goodness and his efforts to avoid conflict demonstrate his underlying potential for growth.

As the heir of Redmond, Fredric Horizon was faced with journey of self-discovery and maturation. He had to navigate the intricacies of his family's expectations, the barony's demands, and his own aspirations. Whether he could rise to the occasion and embrace his role or continue to shy away from it remains unknown.

Death and Reincarnation

Fredric Rocks met his untimely death during the grand unveiling of an experimental weapon in the public square of Redmond—a tragic event that marked the beginning of what would later be known as the Redmond Massacre. The weapon in question, an infernal cannon engineered by the artificer Urrhic Arconot for William Vicarin, was intended to execute a condemned prisoner as a public demonstration of its power. However, at the last moment, Varis Brightheart magically displaced the prisoner from the line of fire. The cannon's devastating blast instead struck a nearby section of the square, instantly killing Fredric and several others in a violent explosion. Their bodies were annihilated, reduced to a mangled heap of scorched flesh and bone.

The explosion triggered chaos across the square, and the ensuing violence culminated in the horrific transformation of William Vicarin into the Flesh Tyrant—a grotesque demigod born from his pact with an unholy patron. Fredric’s death became the tragic spark that ignited the battle against this monstrous entity, a conflict that would claim further lives and forever stain the city’s history.

In the aftermath, Varis scoured the remains and discovered a severed finger wearing the family’s sigil ring—one of the only identifiable parts of Fredric’s body. Preserved with care, it was kept as a possible component for a Reincarnate spell, should the Baron choose to pursue such a course.

Some time later, within the Baron’s throne room, Rayenne, druid of the Travellers, undertook the reincarnation ritual. Her first casting faltered, but the second succeeded. As magical winds swept through the chamber and brilliant light pulsed from the ritual circle, a new form took shape: a tall, silver-scaled Dragonborn lay where Fredric’s remains had once been. Though his body was now alien in form, the soul within identified itself as Fredric, albeit confused and disoriented. His last memory was of introducing Professor Vicarin to the crowd before everything went black.

The transformation sent ripples of unease through those present. Though overjoyed to see his son alive, Baron Oliver Rocks was visibly shaken. Fredric’s new form, while a miracle of magic, presented political and social challenges—he was no longer the human heir the court would recognize. Faced with conflicting emotions, the Baron ordered the throne room cleared, seeking a private moment with his newly reborn son.

Fredric’s resurrection left lingering questions about legacy, identity, and acceptance—questions that would shape not only his future, but the future of House Rocks itself.
