Harkon Reinhardt is a mystery to many in Bearmount. Despite being the half-brother of the town's Lord, he is not known to be actively involved in the day-to-day affairs of the town. Instead, he spends most of his time in the forest, communing with the bears that call Bearmount their home. Harkon's temper is infamous in the town. When he loses control, he can cause destruction that leaves the townsfolk scared and bewildered. Some whisper that Harkon is cursed, others believe that he is simply unable to control his strength. Despite the fear that his outbursts inspire, Lord Ulrik has always been patient with Harkon, doing his best to keep him out of trouble.
The bears of Bearmount seem to have a special connection with Harkon. While he struggles to communicate with humans, he appears to understand the bears on a level that no one else can. Harkon spends hours in the woods, wrestling with the bears and sharing in their hunts. The townsfolk are cautious around the bears, but they have never seen any hostility from them when Harkon is around. Despite his unpredictable behavior, Harkon is not without his virtues. He is fiercely loyal to his brother, and will defend him without hesitation. He is also a skilled woodsman and hunter, and has brought much-needed food to the town on numerous occasions. Many in Bearmount hope that Harkon will find a way to control his rage, and that he will be able to use his unique talents to benefit the town.
