Lightning Gemstone

Component / Weapon
Lightning Gemstones are rare and highly volatile stones formed from the essence of elemental lightning. These gems exist in a solid state but retain the raw power and unpredictability of their elemental origins. Even the slightest disturbance can trigger a discharge of harmful electric current, making them both coveted and feared by inventors, artificers, and arcane explorers. Lightning Gemstones are rarely seen in the general population but can occasionally be found in exotic trades or sold by adventurous individuals willing to brave the dangers of acquiring them.

The origins of Lightning Gemstones are shrouded in mystery and debate. Some scholars and adventurers believe that they are the residual essence of elemental storms, crystallized into solid form over centuries of exposure to magical energies. Others claim that Lightning Gemstones are the result of alchemical experimentation or arcane rituals, created by skilled practitioners seeking to harness the power of lightning for their own purposes. Regardless of their origins, Lightning Gemstones remain highly sought after for their unique properties and potential applications.

Due to their rarity and potent magical properties, Lightning Gemstones command a high price on the market. Artificers, inventors, and magic users are willing to pay top coin for these precious gems, eager to harness their elemental power for their own creations and experiments. However, acquiring Lightning Gemstones is not without risk, as the dangers posed by their volatile nature can deter all but the most daring adventurers and skilled practitioners.

Properties: Lightning Gemstones possess immense potential for both destruction and creation. When properly harnessed and controlled, their elemental energy can be channeled into powerful arcane devices, spells, or enchantments. However, due to their volatile nature, handling Lightning Gemstones requires caution and expertise. Even the smallest impact or manipulation can trigger a surge of electricity, posing a significant risk to those who attempt to wield them without proper training or protection.

Uses: Lightning Gemstones have a wide range of potential uses in the hands of skilled craftsmen and magic users. They can be incorporated into arcane devices, such as wands, staves, or orbs, to enhance their magical capabilities or imbue them with the power of lightning. Alternatively, Lightning Gemstones can be used to augment spells or rituals with elemental lightning, allowing casters to unleash devastating bolts of electricity upon their foes. However, harnessing the power of Lightning Gemstones requires great care and precision, as their volatile nature can pose a danger to both wielder and target alike.

Natural discharge explosive:

Thrown: You thrown the gemstone within range and a screeching crack is heard before an explosion of blinding electricity climbs across the area. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 14). A target takes 8d6 Lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The lighting reaches around corners.

Planted: You plant the gemstone with a timed trigger up to 1d6 minutes. Once it triggers a small hammer hits the gemstone causing an explosion of blinding electricity climbs across the area. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 14). A target takes 8d6 Lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The lighting reaches around corners.
