Scarlet-Domed Backpack

Wondrous Item

The Scarlet-Domed Backpack is a corrupted version of the Iron Dome Backpack created by Varis Brightheart. Unlike its benign counterpart, this backpack exudes an ominous aura, its new red gemstones pulsating with malevolent energy. The backpack itself appears ornate and alluring, with crackling energy around the gemstones that hints at its corrupted magic.

Effects:

Upon activation, the Scarlet-Domed Backpack generates a crimson-hued dome of force spanning a 20-foot sphere, pulsating with unstable energy. While it still offers protection against spells and magical effects, the dome's integrity is compromised, and it may shatter prematurely. At the end of the wielder's turn, a 1d100 dice check is rolled to determine its stability. If the roll is 80 or below, the dome remains intact; otherwise, it collapses, leaving those inside open to attacks.

Cursed Consequence:

In a desperate attempt to reinforce the dome, the wielder of the backpack or a friendly creature can use a reaction to activate the backpack a second time after the dome has been activated, temporarily strengthening the barrier for 5 turns. However, this action comes with dire consequences. The true curse of the Scarlet Gemstone manifests, inflicting the wielder with a debilitating affliction. Those who activate the backpack a second time risk their bodily integrity as the volatile energy of the gemstone surges through their veins, threatening to turn their flesh into living crystal.

Cursed Transformation:

A 1d100 to determine the extent of the gemstone's effect on their body. The roll represents the percentage of their body that has undergone transmutation into crystal. Only the casting of a Wish spell holds the power to break the curse and reverse the transformation.

The possible outcomes of the transmutation are as follows:

  • 1-20: 10% of the bearer's body has turned into crystal.
  • 21-40: 20% of the bearer's body has turned into crystal.
  • 41-60: 30% of the bearer's body has turned into crystal.
  • 61-80: 50% of the bearer's body has turned into crystal.
  • 81-100: 70% of the bearer's body has turned into crystal.
