You are members of the people of West Village that make Truetopia there home. The majority of your society possess special abilities. As far back as anyone remembers, the village sought the Elders for their wisdom, technology, and your gift of power. All they have ever asked in return is worship and for the Chosen, ones They deem worthy, to come forth as servants to abide with Them in paradise for all times.
Overnight, everything changed. Your home of West Village is in turmoil as the faith that stood as the foundation of their society has been replaced by doubts. The community is on the verge of collapse as the first group to ever venture forth from the village and return brought with them troubling news. They learned the truth of The Elders. That truth has upended everything you know and has turned the unity and stability of your home into chaos.
Now, West Village is without the unifying force of misplaced faith and the resources for which the village had grown dependent. The community has devolved into small factions arguing over dwindling resources. Though all is not lost. With your help, your people can overcome its challenges and restore stability in the world.
- 80% of the people born in West Village develop some sort of quirk of power. The adults of the village either possess a very minor ability or don’t possess one at all.
- The people of Truetopia are humanoids but can vary due to an individual's quirks though humans are the most common followed by anthropomorphic humanoids, and a few others.
- People born in West Village were given over to one of the various pod families. It is unclear how pods are selected but these pods become their family with no connection to their biological parents.
A compilation of information for players to make an informed decision during season 1.
Factions
West Village as a whole has a few fractures within the community. Namely, there is a fluctuation among the number of individuals sparked and unsparked individuals, and this subsequently affects who is actively making moves within the community.
West Village Players
You, the players, as well as NPCs you have networked with and the West Village Council.
Jenkin's Pod
Aligned with the players, Jenkin’s group is making efforts to root out OSR interlopers, with only mild success. Low morale has led to several individuals de-sparking, and effectively becoming true West Villagers in all but origin.
Unaligned
The unsparked among West Village are generally in disarray. Most still cling to their faith among the Cult of the Elders, though others have become outright hostile to the upheaval, both to the players as well as any outsiders. This has led to some flocking to the zealous call of The Broken Clockwork, while others seek comfort under the guidance of the players.
Outsiders
There are various outsiders besides the OSR who have entered Truetopia. Rai Jamar, Aura, Sata, Tamyra Arlecchino, among others. Their goals and purpose have not been explicitly explored. While not exactly the same outsiders are sometimes referred to as extraterrestrial.
The Office of Strategic Recursion (OSR)
The organization ostensibly responsible for Truetopia’s creation, as well as their exploitation. The remaining stranded OSR on Truetopia are presumably led by a man named Major Aaron McNealy.
Cult of the Broken Clockwork
A not-insignificant number of sparked and unsparked villagers make up the Cult of the Broken Clockwork. They seek to hasten the end of the recursion, believing themselves and the recursion to be a blight on the universe.
The Returned
A collection of Chosen that survived and returned to Truetopia. They established themselves in a ruined OSR facility North East of West Village, living within the modified cellars under the ruins. They have slowly been reintroducing themselves to West Village, and establishing trade for those who chose to remain within their camp.
Additional Notes
The Collapse
The precise source of what is collapsing Truetopia is undiscovered. You have several avenues of collecting this information, such as additional interrogation of Moraeu, Rai, etc. Currently, addressing the various glitches and anomalies within Truetopia can contribute to stabilizing it.
As a note, as more individuals despark, this contributes to the instability. It seems that the core contribution to people desparking is seeking a source of stability and unity that they were struggling to find prior to desparking.
The Clocktower
The clocktower is responsible for altering the flow of time on Truetopia. Aside from stabilizing the interface with the device, the clocktower proceeds to suffer malfunction due to external influence. Unchecked, it effectively will hasten the collapse of the recursion.
The Stag
So long as the Stag can consume Gilliard Moreau and become whole, there is opportunity for the West Villagers to translate safely into his home recursion as refuge, should Truetopia collapse. This offer affects both the sparked and unsparked, though there is a good chance the unsparked will fully integrate with their new home.
