High Grove of Inis Mona

After the ending of the Age of Summer, the adherents and descendants of the Ardruid Unknown fled south with the rest of their kinsmen. From that point forward they became simply the Goibnu Grove. For the next few centuries the Goibnu Grove was the sole scholastic body with enough retained information to accurately describe the Ardruids, performs impactful magic and knew the secrets to creating and maintaining the menhirs of the inisa.

However, in RE 2809 AoA, a series of clashes between idealistic views began fomenting discontent among the Grove. Shortly after, it erupted into an arcane shadow war between the more scholarly minded individuals who believed that magic and knowledge needed to be controlled and the philosophical minds of the clerical members who saw the Ardruids as divine and deemed their blessings necessary to defend the inisa.

In the end a schism formed and the groves separation into the to unique entities it is today was brokered by the then High Arcanist Bowen Adair. Continuing along its own rationality, the High Grove of Inis Mona is comprised of arcanists, alchemists and scholars all seeking to understand and control the wild magics of the inisa. When arcane matters need to be handled the Toscaire of Dòchas Ùr call upon the venerated minds of the High Grove.

Structure

Membership

Membership is acquired by approaching one of the High Groves' campuses and seeking admission. An aspirant must prove they are not only capable of magic, but capable of learning and adapting as well.

Rank & Renown

Among the High Grove, one acquires renown through feats and examples of furthering arcane knowledge and examples of artifice. Acquiring new magical secrets or items can increase one's prestige with the High Grove.

Rank One: Wyrd

Prerequisites: Rank 1 and renown 10 or higher.

The dues from members and funding from the governments of the Grim Countries are funneled back into the newer members. This sets them up for success and gives them a bit of aid when starting their journey into arcane methodologies. They can purchase spell components or non-magical alchemical items from the guild at 10% less than the marked value.

Rank Two: High Druid

Prerequisites: Rank 2 and renown 25 or higher.

The libraries and laboratories of the High Grove are some of the best on Trynnalta and their almost miserly disposition when it comes to such knowledge means they hoard it well. High Druid members gain +1 to Occult skill checks.

Rank Three: Ancient

Prerequisites: Rank 3 and renown 50 or higher.

Among the wisest, and oldest, citizens of Inis Mona count themselves among the Ancients of the High Grove. Members of this rank are no longer forced to pay dues, but still must give some of their time to the students. You must spend at least a week each month teaching students of the High Grove. To off set this, your tenure guarantees you 1,000 coins annually and when performing tasks on behalf of the Grove, members of this rank can borrow one magic item worth 2,000 coins or less from the archives of the local campus.

When the quest is completed, the item must be returned.

Dues

Dues are paid monthly and are charged by rank. Lapsing more than two payments will result in dismissal.

Wyrd - 100ag a month.

High Druid - 400ag, which can be paid in the form of magic items.

Ancient - See above.

Public Agenda

The High Grove, after the schism, has changed its priorities to include not just the study of the arcane, but its containment and scholastic understanding. To this end, the Grove only dispenses such items and knowledge to those it trusts, or in the case of those with real money, those who can afford such services.

While a few find this hoarding of magic and knowledge distasteful, the overall public perception of the High Grove is positive. Many believe that without the Grove, magic and its practitioners would drown the world in poorly considered experiments or uncontrolled catastrophe.

Assets

The High Grove retained campuses in Foalport, Manannan Port, Six-Bridges and has plans to develop a campus in New Manannan.

Guild Magic

Prerequisites: Seasoned, Arcane Background (Any)

The High Grove are often tasked with handling magical affairs or arcane issues. One of the biggest issues they face are ethereal or unseen foes. Members of the High Grove suffuse their magic with arcane lights that whirl around their foes briefly. When you damage or otherwise affect a creature with a Power, any penalty to hit them caused by abilities such as Ethereal or the Invisibility power are reduced by one.

Sources of Income

Member dues, completing jobs for the wealthy and governmental funding.
