Thetis

(Thet-Uss)

"I will not be triumphed over."

-The Book of the Dead

Just as a coin has two sides, the moon has two faces. In the realms of Syppria Iuna, the light-side of the moon is associated with their goddess Unknown who sought to raise her grandchildren to a civilized and powerful people. However, to the Rekiret, the dark-side of the moon is believed to be a gaping maw into the realm of their gods' most hated foe; Espet. Whether or not this is true, it does appear as though their dark snake goddess of the moon's shadowed half does reside in the demiplane known only as Thetis, located somewhere deep in The Beneath.

This midnight-riven realm is shadows and stone, walls of dark iron and tumbledown ruins that appear to have once been great Qishemi, now laying in the dusts of ages. Rivers of molten fire course like ravenous serpents between pillars decrying the gods and immortalizing their follies. Even gods unknown to the Rekiret appear emblazoned upon the pillars as if the mere worship of these "false" deities is subject to mockery and scrutiny.

Struggling to form a life out of the shadows here, living people and the souls of the dead alike are allowed to form settlements in the shadows of the iconoclastic ruins. They form meager dwellings and are more than preoccupied by the constant needs of survival. Water, while not rare, comes from a single river that twists like a shadow through Thetis. Its waters can only be safely consumed irregularly, with more frequent drinks slowly causing acute apathy that builds until the victim simply does not stir. Still alive, but forever trapped in the nightmare of a still body.

Then, there is the Shuyet. These shadowy, indistinct creatures prowl the shadows of Thetis, stealing away those unfortunates trapped within the realm. They manipulate the minds of others, leading them to attack their loved ones or draw them into seclusion where the Shuyet may feed upon them with their sickly claws, their mouthless faces contorting with glee. Above it all; Espet's eyes can always be seen overlooking the horrors below.

Dark Minds

Espet forces all minds upon Thetis to be as open books. Any mind can be peered into by anyone. It is assumed that the goddess put this spell into place so that her Shuyet could prevent any attempt at escape before it can begin.

Once per encounter, a character may make a Spirit roll to cast the mind reading power without spending any Power Points. Anyone who escapes Thetis gains the Enemy (Major—Shuyet) Hindrance.
