Khalid Radja

The Undying

Born on The Azim Steppe to an Oronir khagan and a daughter of the Radja family, Khalid's early years were marked by assassination attempts and a desperate need to prove himself. Forced to leave under the ire he earned by trying to cheat his way through Bardam's Mettle and stealing a yol's egg, he found his way to Radz-At-Han, where he was reluctantly adopted into his mother's noble house.

A clerical error in Sharlayan gave him the alias "C'laude Rahna," a name that would eventually become known across Eorzea's trade routes. Beneath the merchant's smile and diplomat's poise, the exiled steppe‑born survivor remains—watchful, hungry, and never quite at home.

His mixed heritage has left him with a tail and ears less expressive than those of a normal Miqo'te, and dark Xaela scales with a light, green sheen to them.

Echo I

Ishgard

The glazed surface of the bowl threatens to slip from under his fingers. He catches it, fingertips firm through the shimmer of expensive soaps. The boy that would have let it fall, let it shatter on the floor is gone to the twists and turns of history. Only a shadow remains, forever alien wherever it chooses to go. Even if it is the recess of his own mind. Unwelcome. Scrutinized. If he could, Khalid would not suffer this infirm shade to live. Shallow thoughts, just like the water in the sink. It does not do, to dwell on feelings of a caged thing.

Clean surface of the bowl reflects a man of pleasant looks and pleasant expression. The thought of parading that ugly thing threatens to change the easygoing reflection to a sneer. No. He’ll find the thread that pulled on these ugly, inept limbs, and cut it. No tug of a puppeteer must reach this wounded thing, no one can know it. The moment he slips its secrets into someone else’s sleeve, he is as good as dead.

This ugly thing is afraid, wretchedly and surely as the mountains and seas his legs have crossed while fleeing, its whimpers in his heart and ears. He clutches onto the rage buried over years into the thought and strangles its cries with cold flames.

Echo II

The Holy See Of Ishgard

Ishgard. The Vault. A fool’s errand.

He was younger. Desperate enough to believe that one broken lock, one stolen seal, one whispered word in the right ear, laden with a threat of secret papers - could crack the frozen heart of a city. As if the lofty plans of powerful men are mountains that can be split apart by the right, miraculous sword.

The walls were high. The wards were old. He was not the first to try, and he would not be the last.

He is sure and in the shadows in one moment. Heart drumming in his ears with the excitement of hope and fear. A shot to the thigh. A searing flash of pain. The spell meant to unravel – the same that would later carve through a knight’s shield and leave a hero bleeding out on the snow. He doesn't know its nature yet. He felt it burn, felt his own aether curdle, felt the wound yawn open and refuse to close. He could always stop his own bleeding before. Not that night.

He bleeds. The sentries shout. He runs. He bleeds. He runs. To the edge and over it, to the precipice where wards meet the frigid storm that would kill this land before the hearts of men will.

He teleported blind.

The Black Shroud

The wards twisted his anchor, spat him into the unfamiliar woods like a fish thrown back too late. He crawled until he couldn’t. A stranger found him. In his delirium, he tried to bite his throat open. Body using his last strength to follow this ugly, primal urge to carve out a sliver of hope.

The wooden mask on his face ruins it completely, and totally. He blacks out.

He learns later, after a mishap of trying to flee upon waking. A stranger found him. Olly, they called him. Then another. A man with covered eyes and a voice that asked nothing.

A'leigh.

No questions. No judgment. Just a moon of healing, of quiet, of being patched together by hands that never once demanded to know what he had tried to do. He ate their food. He slept by their fire. He entertained the reluctant children and made tonics with the herbs they brought him. He left when he was whole again, and he never spoke of what had driven him to that wall.

But he returned. Not with words. Not with apologies. He came back with a purpose that would not be denied. He lifted them as they had lifted him. He built something that would outlast his shame. The wound healed. The scar remains. He does not look at it in the mirror. He does not need to. He knows it is there, like a quiet promise: you are not allowed to forget that you were once so foolish, and so rescued.

On dark nights swept by snowstorms, it aches like an oath.

Many years have passed since Khalid's name has last made any impact in The Azim Steppe. By far and large The Xaela Tribes who had any notion of him, consider him dead. Unless, of course, someone made a connection with the child of the same name arriving to Radz-At-Han and becoming a member of Radja family.

Khalid himself has learned more in his time as a student of Sharlayan, but that is a story for his identity as C'laude Rahna.
