Vylbrand is separated from Aldenard by the Strait of Merlthor, just southwest of the mainland. The island is divided by a large volcano at the center. Upon it lies La Noscea, home of Limsa Lominsa, and O'Ghomoro, the towering volcano that the kobolds call home.

Characterized by beautiful and vast grassy fields, La Noscea is named after a second lodesman that perished from scurvy two days before landfall into what would become the city-state of Limsa Lominsa. Originally founded 300 years prior to the Calamity by shipwreck pirates, Limsa Lominsa is the main settlement for the peoples on Vylbrand. Once an unlawful haven for pirates, the threat of the Garlean expansion forced them to unite and organize to a level closer to that of the other city-states of Eorzea. Due to the pacification of the pirates, however, a lot of new reformed pirate colonies set up by Admiral Bloefhiswyn are disputed by the Kobolds of O'Ghomoro, while the Calamity forced the Sahagin to emerge from the sea in search of new spawning grounds for their youth in the western reach of La Noscea.

The Black Shroud, also known as the Twelveswood, is a large forest in central Aldenard. Within these dense woodlands lies the city-state of Gridania; well known in Eorzea for its forestry, agriculture, carpentry and leather working trades.

Many people, when they think of Thanalan are tempted to think of it as nothing but a trackless, sun-baked wasteland. This is far from the truth - while Thanalan is generally arid, it is only the Sagolii Desert proper that can be called desolate and lacking in vegetation. Much of Thanalan is more like a savannah, with somewhat sparse but active plant life which can get notably more lush near major sources of water, particularly in Western, Central and Eastern Thanalan, following the rivers. As a result, the geography varies significantly - from Central Thanalan's relatively flat plains to the towering canyons of Eastern Thanalan to the massive dunes in the Sagolii.

Abalathia's Spine is a great mountain range in Aldenard. Spanning the northern end of the continent from east to west, much of it remained inaccessible until the development of airship travel.

Nestled in the mountains of Abalathia sits the Sea of Clouds. The water and wind-aspected energies of the surrounding area create a perpetual mist reminiscent of clouds, thus making the location true to its name. These same energies can be attributed to floating islands within its mist-shrouded borders.

The unique climate conditions of these islands have given rise to heretofore unseen animal life. And with the advent of airship technology, Ishgard has slowly expanded into this brave new frontier. The mountain chain continues into Gyr Abania, with its eastern end being Abalathia's Skull in The Lochs.

A region to the east of Coerthas featuring a temperate climate. The Dravanian Forelands and the floating isles around the peak of the mountain Sohm-Al have long been the territory of the broods of Hraesvelgr and Nidhogg. The Dravanian Hinterlands fall outside of this area, and subsequently allowed scholars from Sharlayan to found an outpost here of the same name. Since it's abandonment, a group of goblins and adventurers have made an alliance to retake the city, dubbing the Cenotaph and area immediately surrounding it "Idyllshire".

In the north-east of Aldenard lies Gyr Abania, a dry and mountainous region home to the city-state of Ala Mhigo. Following the occupation of the Garlean Empire and the construction of Baelsar's Wall, Gyr Abania has remained cut-off from the rest of Eorzea for over 20 years.

Located near the west-center of Aldenard is Mor Dhona. This area is notable for a large derelict airship dominating the landscape, the Keeper of the Lake. Since the Calamity, many large crystalline deposits can be found dotting the area, including an immense Crystal Tower. As inhospitable as it is, the region has attracted many adventurers, resulting in the creation of the burgeoning town of Revenant's Toll.
