Physical Description

Downtown Anchorage is the economic and political heart of the city, stretching from the Port of Anchorage south to the Delaney Park Strip. Cook Inlet glitters to the west, and on clear days the Alaska Range sprawls across the horizon. The Anchorage Museum anchors the cultural district, while 4th and 5th Avenues bustle with tourists in summer and office workers year-round. Town Square Park hosts festivals, protests, and the occasional moose wandering through. The Downtown Transit Center moves people throughout the city, and the performing arts center brings in acts from around the world. High-rise hotels tower over historic buildings that survived the 1964 earthquake. This is where money flows, deals are made, and Anchorage presents its best face to the outside world.
