Lauren has been deployed as a SWAT agent in the TASK force on two occasions, once in fighting various fiends of the night in San Fransico. She was later relocated to secure mansion to handle a vampiric outbreak where civilians where caught in the cross fire with infected blood and randomly turning into revenants. Grouped together with a mad scientist insisting on making a robot waifu and another CIA operative where she tortured a Revenants a bit to find out what makes them tick. Enough of this trauma and she's bound to turn things around and become a liability. She's the kind of operative who's personnel profile carried three contradictorily lable's stamped in angry red ink. Loyal, Unstable, Indispensable.
A field agent of task force: VALKERIE, Lauren specialised in memory suppression operations, supernatural clean upon and "post-incident civilian harmonization," which is a bureaucratic way of saying she was made for making witnesses forget the impossible. The tragedy was that she wanted the same thing done to her. Not retirement, not desertion. Oblivion.
Eery hunt left residue: a vampire hypnosis, ghostly possession attempt, memetic entities', eldritch signals hidden in radio static, classified, anti-occult drugs, sleep deprivation, the quiet horror the government confirms that the monsters are rae. Eventually she stopped asking "What did I see?" and started asking "Which memories are actually mine?"
During Operation Glass CHAPEL, Lauren's strike team uncovered a phenomena beneath a condemned church in rural Ohio. A thing that existed in recollection itself, not a monster that killed people, but a monster that nestled in memories. The survivors came back altered. Team members forget spouses, languages, entire years of military service. One agent remembered drowning every night despite never being near water. But Lauren remembered everything. She began hearing phantom conversations from dead teammates. Not ghosts. Echoes. Psychological scars. Or maybe that thing was still feeding through her memory pathways
They offered reassignment but she refused it at first, because agents were trained that memory was duty. Then one night she found herself aiming at her own reflection because she genuinely could not determine whether the woman in the mirror was an imposter. After that she volunteered and was reassigned to the craziness that was Anchorage, Alaska,
Lauren now works in a classified subsection unofficially named The Lethe Desk. Agents do damaged to function in the field are processed there. Some recover. Some vanish into black-budget hospitals. Some receive selective memory deletion and emerged as civilians with fabricated histories. Lauren processes request from broken hunters while secretly preparing her own file. She decides which memories are too dangerous to others to keep while desperately trying to decide which of hers deserve to survive within the Task force and actively recruits to make up for the body count.
