Edward has a vision in the night, a visit from his patron which has not happened in some time. The fiendish patron warns Edward that the rabid demon must be destroyed, and when he is, follow the light. His patron also gifts him with forgotten abilities. Edward wakes up startled and sweaty, the others fast asleep. He quickly looks through his spellbook finding new spells burned into the pages. He makes a thorough search in his tome of darkness and finds extra scrawlings in the back of the book that seem to represent the two element stones he has encountered.
The party wakes and gets ready for the day ahead. Fenris makes his way out to the castle walls to view the castle's defences and surrounding land. He has a keen eye for the battlefield to come and also spots something in front of the gatehouse, a weapon stuck in the ground, catching the light of day. Above it one of the castle banners can be seen torn and drooping.
Mornington, in the meantime, has a deep soak in a scented bath, making himself proper for addressing the lordship of the castle. Crom and Edward head down to the castle kitchen, where they find breakfast, Crom's intimidating appearance grants them more than a fair share and they question each other, learning what drives each of them.
Mornington meets with Rahl Capstan, in private, and they discuss a few topics surrounding their nobility. The relations, new and existing, between their families, the struggles they have ahead and some of Rahls opinions regarding Usta and the creatures of the Twisted Thicket.
The rest of the party join in the small throne room, discussing who needs to be gathered to form a battle plan. Rahl introduces Qas, an ex-Servant of the Weave, and sworn wizard to the Capstan family. He is responsible for maintaining the arcane traps of the secret dwarven tunnel. He eyes Edward a few times, descerning his role in this small group. Edward feels under observation again, just like he did with Iravius.
