Session 11

Session Log
July 30, 2019

The party race back to their log cabin to grab their adventuring gear and suit up for conflict before rushing to the northern gate, where a crowd of militia have gathered. They are quickly informed that a group of figures have been spotted brandishing torches at the edge of the Jarce clearing and seem to be heading into the farm land. By the looks of things its goblins and the militia are preparing their bows to protect the village. Despite the gate being barred the party demand they be let outside the walls to meet the threat head on.

Edward and Mornington head through the gate while Artax and Fenris move into the watchtower to get a better look at the enemy. Once the distance has been realised and the enemy are in site they can see that some lesser goblins are torching the fields of grain and need to be stopped. Artax and Fenris loose some arrows finding that only the Longbows can reach, they vault the wall and aim to catch up to the others. As Mornington and Edward move towards the enemy their is a return fire and they can spot two Hobgoblins barking orders at the lesser goblins and knocking back more arrows. Taking intermittent cover amongst the crops, the party struggle to land ranged attacks apart from the odd Eldritch Blast from Edward or arrow from Artax's Longbow. Seeing that a more direct approach is needed, Fenris steps out into the open and shouts out to the Hobgoblin nearest to him, initiating a challenge and goading his opponent into melee combat. Meanwhile, two of the crop fields are ablaze and the fire is spreading rapidly, one however is slowed somewhat by a Chill Touch Edward used against one of the goblins.

The battle heats up as both sides duck in and out of crops, taking pot shots and trying to out flank each other. Simultaneously, not only the hobgoblin, but an additional two goblins have surrounded Fenris in combat and a plan is shouted across the battlefield to get Fenris out of harms way. With organised timing both Mornington and Edward cast Shatter, a new spell in each of their arsenals, just after Fenris disengages and dives out the way. The combined force causes a huge explosion of noise and tears the Goblinoids, and their clothing, to shreds, leaving an eruption of red on the ground and surrounding area. Those remaining on the opposing side quickly lose their morale and the last Hobgoblin whistles for back up. Two Worgs appear shortly after and the last Goblin and last Hobgoblin leap on the back of a Worg. The Hobgoblin says something to the worg and the worg replies in the tongue of the goblin language. The riders turn and start sprinting up the road away from the village. Wanting to leave none alive, Artax draws back on his longbow once more and this time lands a solid hit, taking out the Hobgoblin from the back of his mount. Straight after, Fenris manages to do the same to the goblin and they run up to claim the heads of their slain enemies.

Mornington and Edward can see the fight has come to a close and begin back to the village, people are already emerging out of the gates with pales of water, trying to extinguish any remaining fires. As they enter the village there is a crowd of cheering people, many of them militia, who saw the incredible act of heroism unfold beyond the palisade of the village walls. However, among the crowd a small amount of people are giving distrusting sneers or fearful gazes at the adventurers, not entirely sure what to make of them. Fenris and Artax meanwhile get to the location that the last Goblinoids fell and could only find the corpse of the Goblin, the worgs were no where to be seen and tracks in the road suggest that the Hobgoblin had been carried off with them. A distance of tracking up the road proved that the worgs had easily outpaced them, and way off in the distance a storm could be seen brewing above the rocky hills. A small emanation of lightning gives a glint of a structure in the distance, and the two party members gained their first site of the Faunar Watchtower.

Later after the crowds had departed, Argak Felwood gave his thanks, and once all four party members were gathered back at the cabin, it was time to change once more and return for a feast at the Lord of Timbers Manor house...
