Session 24

Session Log
January 14, 2020

As soon as the two cultists move into the room a fight breaks out as soon as they see the party. Edward casts web trapping the thug while the halfling girl manages to slip loose.
The party manage to subdue the thug and the halfling makes her escape, jumping down the mining shaft and everyone hears a smashing sound a second after.
After a beating and the implementation of a spell, the party manage to get a few key words out of the thug. They need to use Feather Fall to get down the mining shaft.

They find a red gem on the thug and all gather round the shaft debating what they should do and how to approach in the safest way. They link hands and throw the gem to the ground. A flash of red light accompanies the sound of smashing glass and a bolt of flame leaps forth scorching the wall above the mining shaft. Seeing this the party come to the conclusion that they have the wrong type of gem to make the jump and accept that they are going to have to find the long way down.

After binding the thug they continue deeper into the mine, leaving the cultist behind. They find an empty room leading down in a part of the mine yet to be explored. A pile of sharpened sticks are found, roughly spear sized and some have discolouration on them, perhaps blood.

All members of the party grab a stick each before taking the next tunnel which also leads deeper underground, at a steeper incline that the previous passage.

The next chamber they enter is large and stretches beyond the limits of Artax's darkvision. The walls in this chamber are porous and have small tunnels leading off of the room that are just big enough for a child to crawl through.

As the party enter the room they hear the sound of chattering insects all around and can hear the chorus of footsteps approaching.
Rust monsters burst from every opening in the walls and start to swarm the party, trying to eat their metallic items.
A push too and fro between the sides of this combat continue exchanges until the party can see that they cannot endure this for too long and will be warn down due to the sheer numbers they face.
A quick half retreat is formed before Mornington and Edward unleash a Shatter spell each, causing serious damages to the swarm of rust monsters. A final push is made by Artax and Fenris to slay a few more beasts and the rest disperse in instinctual fear.

The sound of struggle and bloodied thuds are heard echoing from the other end of the chamber and once the party move to see what happened they can see rough tracks where a rust monster has been crushed and dragged away into a passage leading down.

In fear of following some predators tracks, the party take a second exit that also seems to lead down but only at a gradual incline.

They find crudely made spike traps, made of the same sharpened sticks found in a previous chamber, a sign of intelligent defence. A close call with some mechanised traps in the passage results in a cautious approach, but the party make it into a squared chamber that has the same large mining shaft from the previous floor. In addition, there are many human shaped tracks leading down a wide tunnel, the party decide to follow on.

The party find a 'T' junction intersection and notice that the walls in this tunnel have changed in material, a dark, glossy and smoother stone that appears to be made of one solid piece. Moving to peer round the corner, Artax hits a trip wire that simply rings a bell positioned further down the corridor out of sight. Realising they have probably alerted guards, the party decide to double down and continuously ring the bell to see if they can get any of the Gemcutter followers to come investigate.

However, footsteps can now be heard from the passage the party have just travelled down. Heavy footsteps, lumbering. Artax keeps watch to see what is approaching, from the darkness a muscular hunched figure emerges, hairy with broad shoulders and two eyes reflecting in the gloom of the mine.

Artax turns to the others, "Run!"
