Originally a minor goddess of the cyclic changes of the universe, like the seasons and the weather, Valie was changed forever when she was near-mortally wounded during the Illiadian Great War of Shadows. This changed her, tainting her body, soul and metaphysical being with shadow, but also allowed for her to take on a new aspect, the aspect of personal and societal change, new beginnings and historical shake-ups, for better or for worse. Ever since then, her personality has been more unstable than before, though she is not any less kind, just more whimsical and flighty.
Often depicted as an Arrash woman with a shadow-scarred face, Valie is often considered a symbol for changes and reform, but also a patron for Tirrdaka and Half-Tirrdaka who pray for her protection. However, sometimes she's also credited with accidentally turning people into Tirrdaka in the first place, as she has started developing corruptive, transformative Shadow-abilities. But besides Shadow-corruption, Valie is also able to change nearly anything into something else.
Serving mostly Rencal Kei-Rhai, Merikira te Ruvea and Sh'ther Kei-Sihr, Valie's realm in The Marble Cathedral are the "Depths of Change", which are an ever-changing environment, not unlike Limbo.
Basic tenets of Valie:
- Do not fear the winds of change. Instead, embrace them.
- Always strive to be different from the you that you were yesterday, no matter how small the difference.
- Self-improvement only comes with self-respect. Always be who you want to be.
