(Homebrew by Christopher Zito on dmsguild. Due to the commercial nature of the homebrew, it will be provided to players if they want to play this race.)

This Race has optional racial feats in its document, if they're so desired.

If you'd like, you can play the version of the version of the Mock that is found in The Living Index, the creator's player-race compilation PDF. However, the DMsGuild version will be standard.

Why is this picture frame dripping with slime? Why does this woman over there seem to have a set of sharp teeth on her back, peeking out when her shirt was fluttering in the wind? Well, this might just be a Mock. Mock are... well, calling them "sapient mimics" would be a bit of a misnomer, since some mimics can converse with people just fine. Rather, they're "evolved mimics" that have evolved to be in a permanently humanoid state, rather than an amorphous one; quite possibly to make the act of hunting food easier.

Whether they have a humanoid form or not, or whether they can disguise themselves as humanoids or simply as objects... Mock are... an unwelcome sight in most settlements, no matter the type. And this is not because of their ability to disguise themselves, like Changelings or Shadow- and Light-Walkers, no. People don't like Mock simply for one simple fact:

Mock, just like a number of Lizardfolk and Yuan-Ti, consider other sentient and sapient beings as a potential source of food. In fact, they're probably worse, since many of them actively seek out sapient creatures specifically to eat, as they still have the same instincts and urges as their mimic brethren. This makes people look at Mock, even those that seek out civilization with a genuine desire for companionship, with an extreme dose of suspicion at best or a burning hatred at worst.

Nonetheless, a Mock might change with time, as they develop friendships and bonds with other sapient creatures, and may forego eating sapient creatures entirely, and switching to a completely normal, humanoid diet... well, either that, or they develop a taste for man-made objects and currency.

Mock that genuinely want to live together with humanoids sometimes become spies or assassins, as their abilities (and hunger) help out in these jobs a lot. Others who are less of the adventuring type meanwhile sometimes take up jobs in the culinary sector, or act as... uh... undertakers. (Please don't ask where these bodies go.)

Most Mock start out with a neutral alignment, as they tend to be motivated by little more than hunger. But as time goes on, their own moral compass may develop. Mock also reproduce by budding, and a newly "born" mock reaches maturity within just a year. Their maximum age however is a mystery. They can be classified into two groups, major and minor, with Major Mock being able to disguise themselves as people, while Minor Mock can only disguise themselves as objects.
